A superteam is a fairly reliable way to give yourself a good chance of winning a championship. After all, having multiple stars/superstars gives the franchise better chances in the playoffs, as compared to just having one star. However, stacking talent doesn’t always work out, and there are plenty of superteams that don’t end up winning the championship.
The Miami Heat and the Los Angeles Lakers both made moves to add more talent to their rosters. The Miami Heat added Kyle Lowry via sign and trade, and the Los Angeles Lakers moving multiple players for former MVP Russell Westbrook. Both of these teams were in the NBA Finals during the 2019-20 season, and there is no doubt that they are itching to return.
Blake Griffin has recently commented on the moves made across the league and it looks as though he believes that stacking talent doesn’t necessarily guarantee a championship. Griffin stated that he’s been in other situations where there was a lot of talent on his team, and it didn’t end up working out.

Obviously, we can point to last season’s Brooklyn Nets as an example of Griffin’s point. Many believed that they were favorites for the championship, only for their run to be derailed by injuries to James Harden and Kyrie Irving. Blake Griffin also happened to be part of the Lob City Clippers with Chris Paul and DeAndre Jordan, who were a great team that never won a championship. Winning a ring is incredibly difficult, and while stacking talent gives a team a better chance, there is no sure-fire recipe to winning.
Blake Griffin re-signed with the Brooklyn Nets this offseason, and it looks as though he was willing to stay on a stacked team. However, Griffin clearly realizes that a lot of things can happen on a run, and many great teams don’t end up winning championships.
