Andre Iguodala Says He Was Supposed To Sign With The Dallas Mavericks, Not The Golden State Warriors

Andre Iguodala was a key player for the Golden State Warriors’ success from 2015 through 2019. The veteran swingman joined a team that needed his experience to reach the next level.

It was a match made in heaven, but the Dubs were close to losing Iggy if Mark Cuban didn’t hesitate to sign him. In a recent edition of JJ Redick’s “The Old Man and the Three,” Iguodala revealed details of his negotiations with the Dallas Mavericks, which led him to pick the Warriors in the 2013 free agency.

Around the 4:10 mark, Iguodala explained to Redick and Tommy Alter that he was set to sign with the Mavericks, but Mark Cuban asked him to wait and see if Dwight Howard would go to Dallas.

In the end, D-12 signed with the Houston Rockets, joining forces with James Harden. Iggy got tired of that situation and, as soon as he received another offer from the Warriors, took it.

That was the best decision for the player. He went to have a terrific tenure with the Dubs, winning three championships, even getting Finals MVP honors in the first championship run of the team.

This is a big “what-if?” for Iggy. The swingman had a great time in the Bay, and it’s fair to say he wouldn’t have had the same fate if he joined the Mavs when he had the chance.
