Kyrie Irving To Kevin Durant Before They Signed With The Nets: “They Got Two Max Slots, It’s Time!”

A lot of people were shocked when Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant went to New York to meet at the Barclays Center, trying to lead the Brooklyn Nets to win their first-ever NBA championship, changing the landscape of the league with that move.

This appeared to be cooking months before the summer of 2019, as the pair were spotted talking a lot during the All-Star Weekend. At some point, Kyrie was recorded telling Durant a very suggesting phrase that sparked a lot of reactions around the league.

“They got two max slots, it’s time,” the then Boston Celtics appeared saying to the former Golden State Warriors superstar.

A couple of months later, they would join the Nets, who signed their names on the list of contenders for the 2019/20 NBA season and the next three or four after that. The video earned the two players a lot of criticism but in the end, Durant admitted they planned their summer during that conversation. They didn’t know the destination but something was decided at that moment.

During an appearance on “The ETCs” on The Boardroom, KD admitted that they had planned all of that at that exact moment (via USA Today).

“The All-Star game video where they caught us in the hallway. That’s when it was solidified that we were going somewhere. They didn’t know for a fact where it was, but it was somewhere.”

Two years later, Irving and Durant are leading a powerhouse in the NBA, but they have gotten more support in James Harden, Blake Griffin, and LaMarcus Aldridge. It’s curious to see what a little chat in the hallway of the Spectrum Center could mean for the league two years later.
