NBA Rumors: Top 5 Best Destinations For DeMar DeRozan

DeMar DeRozan has quietly had a great year this season. He is averaging for a team that just missed the playoffs in the competitive West. After being traded for Kawhi Leonard two seasons ago, DeRozan has kept his head down and worked on his game. There are still not many scorers who are better than DeRozan, who has shown he can take and make big shots.

  • 5. Atlanta Hawks
  • 4. Detroit Pistons
  • 3. Charlotte Hornets
  • 2. New York Knicks
  • 1. Toronto Raptors

DeMar DeRozan has a player option in his contract, meaning he will do what is best for himself in the coming season. DeRozan either wants to win an NBA title or secure the bag for his future with a long-term contract. This means if a team offers him a long term contract, he might reject the player option and sign 3-4 years. If the franchise pitch was particularly impressive, the star player might even take a discount.

Here are all the best destinations for DeMar DeRozan if he wants a move elsewhere.

5. Atlanta Hawks

Atlanta has a pretty promising squad with All-Star Trae Young and key pieces including Clint Capela and John Collins. The Hawks are definitely on to something with their plans, and adding a player of DeRozan’s caliber would immediately place them into the playoffs next season.

A lineup of Trae Young, Cam Reddish, DeMar DeRozan, John Collins, and Clint Capela is a promising team for the future. They can even make noise in the East and fight for a top-4 spot. If DeMar wants to be the veteran leader of a team, Atalanta is the best spot for him.

4. Detroit Pistons

The Pistons moved on from old-school center Andre Drummond, but they still have Blake Griffin and Derrick Rose. The Pistons should hold onto Griffin because he is one of the best power forwards in the league when he is healthy. Rose also has something to prove and he had a great season in 2019. Guys like Luke Kennard and Chris Wood are excellent support players who have shown they can perform consistently.

Adding DeMar DeRozan makes him the primary scoring option from the perimeter, and he has the likes of Blake Griffin and Derrick Rose to trust to perform well. The Pistons should offer DeRozan a 4-year contract to convince him to sign because a lineup with him would be good enough for a top-4 seed.

3. Charlotte Hornets

Surprisingly, the Charlotte Hornets were not as bad as we thought. They are not a great team by any means, holding a 23-42 record and missing the playoffs. But they really should have been the worst team in the league after losing franchise star Kemba Walker in Free Agency.

Guys like Devonte Graham and P.J. Washington are promising players and Terry Rozier has the right attitude for a winning squad. DeRozan signing with the Hornets most likely places them in the playoffs, and he would be the undisputed man on the team. If Charlotte throws money at him, offers a long-term contract, and treats him like a superstar player he might join.

2. New York Knicks

Without a doubt, the best spot for DeRozan to be an icon is with the New York Knicks. The whole world knows about how critical New York is to the NBA and the entire United States as a whole, so being a face of a franchise like the Knicks is excellent for boosting a player’s profile. This is about DeMar, and what he values most in free agency.

If DeRozan wants to prove he can be the man and best player on a team, taking the Knicks to the playoffs proves this. DeRozan will also enjoy the bright lights and admiration for a franchise that needs a scoring talent and bonafide All-Star like himself.

1. Toronto Raptors

The greatest storybook move for DeRozan would be to join the Raptors again. DeRozan made it clear how much he enjoyed playing in Toronto, and how the city embraced him because he essentially put them on the map in the East alongside Kyle Lowry.

Lowry is still there, the championship roster is still there, and they need a player like DeRozan who can break down the defense and score. A trio of DeRozan, Siakam, and Lowry puts them at the top of the East and makes them the favorite alongside Milwaukee. DeRozan might go back if he wants to carry out some unfinished business in his original team.
