Ranking The 2016 NBA Draft Class By Tiers

It’s never easy to compare or rank players that are still working their way to the top of the league. Some times some classes need more time before breaking out.

Contents
  • Tier Five
  • Tier Four
  • Tier Three
  • Tier Two
  • Tier One

Obviously, some players prove their worth right out of the gate, while others end up struggling to adapt to the physical and mental demands of the NBA.

That’s why today we’re going to talk about one of the most interesting classes we’ve seen in a while: the class of 2016, which features some of today’s stars.

Tier Five

Timothe Luwawu, DeAndre’ Bembry, Skal Labissiere, Dragan Bender, Ante Zizic, Tyler Ulis, Guerschon Yabusele, Marquesse Chriss, Cheick Diallo, Jake Layman

Tier five features several players that were actually supposed to be great but hasn’t been able to live up to the expectations thus far, like Dragan Bender, and Marquesse Chriss.

None of these players are likely to break out or be more than role players in the league. However, all of them have what it takes to be around for long.

Tier Four

Taurean Prince, Kris Dunn, Furkan Korkmaz, Patrick McCaw, Jakob Poltl, Thon Maker, Denzel Valentine, Juan Hernangomez

Tier Four features a couple of defensive specialists like Kris Dunn and Taurean Prince. Both of those guys still have plenty of chances to become a valuable asset for their respective teams.

Other than them, we have mostly role players that can become an X-Factor from time to time, but that have struggled to be consistent contributors.

Tier Three

Domantas Sabonis, Caris LeVert, Ivica Zubac, Dejounte Murray, Malik Beasley, Buddy Hield

Tier three features some All-Star caliber players. Hell, we even have Domantas Sabonis, who has already made it to the big game once on his career.

LeVert and Hield could be among the league’s leading scorers in the foreseeable future, while Beasley, Zubac, and Murray’s defense will keep them in the league for a very long time.

Tier Two

Malcolm Brogdon, Jamal Murray, Pascal Siakam, Brandon Ingram, Jaylen Brown

Tier two features some of the league’s rising stars nowadays. Both Pascal Siakam and Brandon Ingram are game-changers in both ends of the floor, while Jaylen Brown could be a go-to-guy elsewhere.

Malcolm Brogdon and Jamal Murray have embraced their roles on their teams but have enough talent and upside to step up whenever they’re needed. They’re money from all three levels, and as efficient as they come.

Tier One

Ben Simmons

This one may cause a bit of controversy, but it’s just a fact. Ben Simmons is the best player from this class, even if he doesn’t shoot threes and has struggled with injuries throughout his career.

Simmons is a generational talent. He’s the kind of point forward that could turn any team into a contender and his defensive impact is just off the charts.

Obviously, there are still some flaws in his game and he shoots with the wrong hand, but he’s a walking triple-double threat and isn’t even nearing his prime.
