Golden State Warriors Dynasty: Where Are They Now?

9 Min Read

Ever since Steve Kerr was appointed as the Golden State Warriors’ head coach the team was used to completely dominating the league.

They had a historic 5-year run where they made it to five straight trips to the Finals, winning 3 Championships and even breaking the Chicago Bulls’ record for most wins in the regular season.

However, it now looks like their terrifying dynasty may finally be over, as they’re at the bottom of the standings right now and poised to miss the playoffs for the first time in the Kerr era.

So with their great run already in the history books, let’s take a look back at some of the most iconic players of their dynasty and what are they up to right now.

Zaza Pachulia – Consultant For The Warriors

Zaza Pachulia is a controversial and polarizing player. Golden State fans love him because of the dirty work he did during his time with the team and that’s exactly why most rival fans hate him.

His hard, strong screens constantly opened up lanes for the Splash Brothers to be at their best. Now he’s back with them as a consultant for player development.

JaVale McGee – Los Angeles Lakers

2 NBA Championships, 2 NBA Finals

JaVale McGee took his career back from the ground under Steve Kerr’s tutelage. People mocked him but he didn’t care. He did an outstanding job coming off the bench and was tailor-made for their system.

Now, McGee is the Los Angeles Lakers’ starting center and he’s been quite productive on a per 36 minutes basis, thriving as a rim protector and dominating presence on both sides of the glass.

Matt Barnes – Analyst

Matt Barnes wasn’t at his peak when he played for the Golden State Warriors, but he provided a much-needed physical wing-stopper that could also knock down three-pointers.

He was a beloved member of the team thanks to his first tenure at the Bay and he’s now a part-time analyst and host of the “All The Smoke” podcast with Stephen Jackson.

David West – Retired

David West drew a lot of criticism for joining the Golden State Warriors on a ‘ring-chasing deal’. However, he paid his dues by playing the only way he knew how to play the game: hard.

West was one of Kerr’s first players off the bench night in and night out. His ability to defend the paint and the perimeter was perfect for their system, as well as his range as he allowed him to thrive in small-ball lineups.

Andrew Bogut – Playing In Australia

Andrew Bogut has been one of the least lucky players of the Steve Kerr era, as he’s only won 1 ring despite making 3 NBA Finals appearances. However, that’s hardly his fault.

Bogut cherishes his time at the Bay and is constantly looking forward to coming back. He’s currently playing for the Sidney Kings of the Australian NBL but has expressed his interest in rejoining the team next season if they need him.

Shawn Livingston – Retired

3 NBA Championships, 5 NBA Finals

Even if it may sound like a reach, the Golden State Warriors’ dynasty wouldn’t be what it was if it wasn’t for Shaun Livingston, one of the biggest leaders of that locker room.

Livingston’s ability to guard multiple positions gave the Warriors a lot of versatility, let alone his playmaking. He didn’t get the credit he deserved for his contributions to the team, so props to him.

Harrison Barness – Sacramento Kings

Harrison Barnes was supposed to be one of the league’s next superstars. While that didn’t happen, you just can’t ignore his contributions to the Warriors’ first two years of the dynasty.

His presence as a slasher opened up a lot of passing lanes for Stephen Curry and his defense was always welcome. Now, he’s a role player for the young Sacramento Kings.

Andre Iguodala – Miami Heat

3 NBA Championships, 5 NBA Finals, 1 Finals MVP

Andre Iguodala joined the Warriors and embraced a lesser role coming off the bench after being an All-Star and a team’s primary scorer. His maturity paved the way for the Warriors’ success.

Andre became the team’s X-Factor thanks to his top-tier defense that allowed Kerr to establish his deadly ‘Hamptons Five’ lineup. Now he’s playing for the Miami Heat on a similar role.

Draymond Green – Still With The Team

3 NBA Championships, 5 NBA Finals, Defensive Player of the Year, Steal Champion

Draymond Green is the heart and soul of the Warriors. He’s one of the league’s most versatile defenders ever and his playmaking made it easier for the Splash Brothers to find open shots.

He’s faced a lot of criticism because of his struggles this season without his All-Star teammates but there’s just no denying his impact and contributions when talking about this dynasty.

Klay Thompson – Injured

Klay Thompson is one of the best two-way players in the league. He’s an efficient scorer from beyond the arc that puts up insane numbers years after year. He barely needs to dribble before pulling up.

The Warriors have missed Thompson’s backcourt defense and light out shooting this season while he nurses a devastating ACL injury he suffered in Game 6 of the 2019 NBA Finals.

Kevin Durant – Injured

Kevin Durant became one of the league’s most hated players because of his decision to join the Warriors. People claimed they didn’t need him but he surely took them to a whole new level.

They wouldn’t have beaten the Cavaliers twice without his contribution, but he didn’t feel appreciated and eventually left. Now, he’s rehabbing from an Achilles injury and will be out for the season.

Stephen Curry – Injured

3 NBA Championships, 5 NBA Finals, 2 MVP, Scoring Champion, Steal Champion

(via The Mercury News)

You just can’t talk about the Warriors’ dynasty without talking about Stephen Curry, their ultimate leader, the face of the franchise, and the guy that completely changed the way the game is played now.

Like it or not, Curry’s unlimited range set a standard in this league. Kids want to be like Steph now, they want to be the greatest shooter ever. Some may argue he’s still in debt in the Finals, but he was the building block and cornerstone of this Dynasty all along.
