LeBron James and Bronny James are set to become the first father-son duo to play together in the NBA and while that’s quite special, their being teammates raised one question. What will the son call the father when they’re on the court? Well, LeBron made it clear earlier that Bronny can’t call him “Dad” and during an appearance on GoJo and Golic, he stated he still doesn’t know what his son will call him.

“You know what? He has not said anything yet,” LeBron said. “He has not given me a name yet on the practice court, and I actually have my ears so open, waiting for that moment.”

What will Bronny call LeBron at work? @KingJames is eager to find out too πŸ˜…

It was just this week that LeBron and Bronny first trained together as professionals on the court and the latter seems to have avoided addressing the former at all during the session. The 19-year-old will have to decide on a name soon enough, though, and it will be interesting to see what he goes with.

While LeBron doesn’t have anything to think about on his end, as he has been calling his son by his name for years, there is one thing that he apparently has to work on. James admitted he lost focus watching Bronny during the Los Angeles Lakers’ offseason workouts and he’ll have to make sure that doesn’t happen when the actual games begin. Knowing LeBron, I don’t expect any lapses when the season starts.

Zach Lowe Believes Bronny James Will Play On The Opening Night Of The Season

While LeBron and Bronny will share the court in the 2024-25 season, it is still not very clear when it will happen for the first time. The teenager, who was the 55th pick of the 2024 draft, isn’t ready just yet to play significant minutes in the NBA, but Zach Lowe thinks he will be out there on the court right away. Lowe predicts Bronny will play on opening night for the Lakers so he can share the court with LeBron.

β€œHe’s 100% playing in the game so they can have a moment together. That’s gonna happen. So they pass to each other or whatever it ends up being.”

With how eager LeBron has been to play with Bronny, I think there is a good chance the latter plays on opening night against the Minnesota Timberwolves. He won’t get too many minutes if he does play, though, as he isn’t an NBA-caliber player yet.

Bronny averaged just 8.8 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 0.8 steals, and 0.5 blocks per game in the NBA 2K25 Summer League for the Lakers. He also shot just 39.3% from the field and 25.0% from three and is a very raw prospect. I expect Bronny to spend a fair bit of time with the South Bay Lakers in the G League this upcoming season in order to develop his game.

While Bronny won’t play much in the 2024-25 NBA season, LeBron sure will. The 39-year-old averaged 25.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, 8.3 assists, 1.3 steals, and 0.5 blocks per game last season and is still going strong despite his advanced age. The Lakers will once again be heavily relying on the 20-time All-Star in 2024-25 and he will be hoping to take them to the Promised Land.
