LeBron James could become the only player in NBA history to reach 50,000 total career points next season. James is currently at 48,636 points in his career, across both the regular season and the playoffs, and needs just 1,364 points to reach 50,000. He could do it as early as next season, especially considering he scored 1,984 points last season in the regular season and the playoffs.

James reaching 50,000 total career points would be a historic achievement. James is already the leader in this unique statistical category, ahead of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar at 44,149, Karl Malone at 41,689, Kobe Bryant at 39,283, and Michael Jordan at 38,279. James would only be extending the gap between himself and his predecessors.

The only active player in the top 10 of this statistical category is Kevin Durant, who ranks eighth with 33,909 points across both the regular season and the playoffs. It goes without saying that James isn’t going to be caught by any NBA player for quite some time, as Durant is too far behind him to catch up right now.

This accomplishment would only add to James’ already massive legacy. James is considered by many to be the greatest player of all time. And adding this feat to his legacy would further reinforce his GOAT case.

James is entering his 22nd season and is still one of the best players in the league. Despite turning 40 this December, James is playing at the highest level possible, having taken great care of his body throughout his career. While the Lakers are not expected to do well next season, no team with LeBron James can be ruled out entirely.

LeBron James Winding Down His Career

LeBron James is clearly in the final years of his career. For him, the priorities may have changed. James, who was once always hungry for championship glory, is having to accept the fact that the Lakers are not a competitive franchise right now, and unless they make a massive trade, they are not likely to be competitive next season.

James still has a lot to look forward to. He will get the chance to play with his son Bronny James. James recently sent an inspirational message to his son ahead of the new season, showing how much he is looking forward to playing with him and how proud he is of him.

With the Lakers set to begin training camp soon, James’ dream of playing with his son, something he has spoken about for years, will come one step closer to fulfillment. Playing with his son will rival any major accomplishment James has had in his NBA career.
