Speaking on ‘All the Smoke’ podcast, the legendary Snoop Dogg gave his thoughts on a wide range of topics ranging from music to culture and sports. At one point, he was even asked about the Clippers’ new section at Intuit Dome and took it as an opportunity to take a jab at the organization and its status as the secondary franchise of the city.

Matt Barnes: “You saw that section where you can only be a Clippers fan? It’s a whole wall where you have to Clipper fan to sit in that b*tch.”

Snoop Dogg: “Well it’s gonna be kind of empty in that Mr then!”

Fresh off a pivotal season, the Clippers are set to open their brand-new “Intuit Dome” arena. The state-of-the-art venue is updated with all the latest tech and gadgets and will come with a complete rebrand of the organization. The arena will apparently also feature a wall dedicated to their fans which will give them a place to reward those who rep and root for the Clippers during their games.

The area will presumably fit hundreds or thousands of people, but not everyone is convinced that it will be full. Even as a team in Los Angeles, the Clippers are considered a relatively minor franchise because of their status as the lesser team in Los Angeles.

As a former swingman for the Clippers, Matt Barnes knows this all too well. He played for the franchise for four years alongside Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, and DeAndre Jordan. He poured his heart and soul into every game he played for them and was a valuable role-player for them during their best years. But even Barnes couldn’t help but laugh after Snoop’s jab.

The rapping/Hip-Hop legend is a longtime Lakers fan who was on good terms with countless players of the Purple and Gold, including Kobe Bryant himself. Today, Snoop isn’t seen as frequently in the NBA world but his loyalty to the Lakers remains unchanged.

As a Los Angeles resident, Snoop knows more than most about what kind of sports culture exists in the city and he knows that it’s Lakers or bust for the people that live here. Despite the best efforts from Chris Paul, Peul George, and Steve Ballmer, Los Angeles is a Lakers town and the Clippers have yet to exist outside of its shadow.

So while the Clippers may be actively working hard to build up their own identity, it’s going to take some time before the NBA community takes them seriously. Their only hope for change in that regard is to win in the playoffs and make a run where it counts.

Without Paul George to help increase the chances of success, the Clippers are expected to take a step back in the West. But with Kawhi Leonard, James Harden, and a case of solid role-players, faith is building that the Clippers can be competitive and bring some excitement into their new arena.

At this point, the Clippers must do everything and anything they can to drive up their fans so they can fill up their wall and establish the kind of culture they want for the iconic new Intuit Dome.
