Paul George revealed recently that rapper and comedian Lil Dicky played a part in convincing him to join the 76ers. Lil Dicky was part of the pitch video at the behest of Daryl Morey to convince George to come to the 76ers. It was Dicky’s financial input that made George consider coming to the 76ers, as he compared the cost of living in Philadelphia compared to Los Angeles.

Paul George: “Your video, it sold me (on coming to Philly). It was about saving. What hit me was saving money. It impacted me. It had a little touch on me.”

Lil Dickey: “The best part of my success, my favorite part about it is that I’ve become friends with the Philadelphia 76ers, and the GM. Having that relationship to text Daryl Morey and be like ‘What are we doing?’… He said ‘Would you be interested in being part of the pitch video?'”

“I said ‘Absolutely, is there anything specific you want me to talk about?’. They didn’t have anything that specific. So I just thought what would be pertinent information? And look, I’m from Philadelphia, I know where your dollar goes in Philadelphia. I have a house in LA. If I spent that same amount of money on a house in Philadelphia, it would be 100 times bigger…”

Fans of the 76ers will be thankful that Lil Dicky helped sell George on coming to their franchise. George signed with the 76ers in free agency, inking a four-year, $212 million deal with the franchise. George now joins Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey as one of the stars and cornerstones of the franchise going forward.

George undoubtedly makes the 76ers one of the contenders to win the Eastern Conference. The 76ers will face stiff competition from the Celtics, who are the reigning champions, and the Knicks, who have vastly improved their roster in the offseason with the Mikal Bridges deal.

Joel Embiid Looking Forward To Playing With Paul George

Joel Embiid spoke about the Paul George signing for the 76ers. Embiid thinks the two will gel well together, and be able to play some great basketball together. He added that George and Maxey are great shooters who will allow the team to stretch the floor and be offensively overpowered.

“As far as the fit, it looks amazing, it’s great. Especially… you need to have willing shooters and guys that are not afraid to pull the trigger. PG is a great shooter, 40%… Tyrese we know, great shooter, off the dribble, catch-and-shoot. So, I think we got a pretty good chance.”

Paul George is coming off a strong season, where he played 74 games and averaged 22.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 3.5 assists for the Clippers. If he can continue this level of performance with the 76ers, and Joel Embiid can stay healthy and play at his best, the 76ers will be one of the frontrunners for the NBA championship.

George and the 76ers will be looking forward to the new NBA season, as they look to improve upon their playoff performances. The 76ers are yet to make the Eastern Conference Finals in the Joel Embiid era, and they will want to change that this season.
