Anthony Edwards isn’t focused on the Timberwolves‘ loss to the Mavericks in the Western Conference Finals. Speaking to Vincent Goodwill of Yahoo Sports, Edwards was asked about how long it took to get over the bitter loss. Edwards, in his signature blasé fashion, Edwards responded by saying that thought is gone from his mind.

Goodwill: “How long does take it for a player like you to get over like that? You’ve never been that far before, you guys opened up a lot of yes, people respect you now. You’re not just a team that people think is fun, you’re a winning team… Does that stick with you right now?”

Edwards: “That sh*t gone. I can’t go back and replay it. It’s over, we lost. All I’m thinking about is now… if we get back there, what are we going to do? It’s over with.”

Goodwill: “Most people say they use it as a motivating factor.”

Edwards: “Man, they be lying. When you lose, you’re motivated. If you don’t lose and you’re not motivated, it’s a problem. Of course, they’re going to say they use that. Ask them, do they use any loss in the 82 games as a motivating factor. I feel like that’s cap. You should always be motivated to get better and come back better.”

Edwards seems to have a mature approach to the loss in the Western Conference Finals. Many players his age would have let the loss get to them, and it could affect their performances in the future. But Edwards is not harping on the loss as he joins Team USA for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Anthony Edwards Is Confident About His Role On Team USA

Anthony Edwards spoke yesterday about his place on Team USA. Edwards boldly suggested that he is the number one option on Team USA, and players like LeBron James, Anthony Davis, Stephen Curry, and Kevin Durant have to learn how to play around his style and his position.

“I’m still the number one option. Y’all might look at it differently, I don’t care… I gotta go out there and do myself. Shoot my shots, play defense, they got to fit in to play around me. That’s how I feel.”

Edwards is clearly confident in himself. However, he also showed respect to other members of his team. He noted that Kevin Durant is the alpha on the team when it comes to late-game situations. Edwards is the young gun on the roster, and many believe he is the best young player on the Team USA squad.

Edwards had a great season last year, as he averaged 25.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 5.1 assists to lead the Timberwolves to the third seed in the Western Conference. He and the Timberwolves upset then-reigning NBA champions Denver Nuggets to reach the Western Conference Finals, but couldn’t overcome Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks.

Edwards’ rise to being one of the best players in the NBA continues, as he takes steps to improve his game on a year-by-year basis. A massive win at the 2024 Paris Olympics will surely soften the sting of missing out on the NBA Finals.
