Miami Heat star Jimmy Butler was one of the glaring omissions from this year’s All-Star rosters. But after being asked about the snub, Butler denied any attachment to the accolade and revealed just how little he cares about All-Star appearances and All-NBA selections.
“I think everybody knows that I don’t care to be an All-Star, I don’t care about being All-NBA,” said Butler, via Miami Herald. “I don’t care about any of that. I just want to win, I mean it. I am who I am, man.”
Butler didn’t even make the cut after injuries, with Trae Young and Scottie Barnes both getting the nod as replacements over Butler, who has missed some time with his own injuries this season. On the court, Jimmy has been fine for the Heat this season, with averages of 21.4 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game on 50.0% shooting. He’s been the leader both on and off the floor for the Heat and his impact is well-known across the NBA community.
For the Heat, part of what makes Butler so special is his relentless hunger to win and it seems to be the only thing he really cares about at this stage of his career. Last season, we saw Butler and the Heat at their best when they made a run to the NBA Finals and he proved then that he’s one of the top 10 players in the world when it matters most. But after coming up short once again, and starting off relatively mediocre this season, there are questions about if what we saw a few months ago was actually more of a fluke than a sign of things to come.
Can Jimmy Butler Lead The Miami Heat To An NBA Championship?
As one of the best two-way forwards in the league, Jimmy Butler has found amazing success in Miami and he’s been the face of a team that has embodied excellence over the past few years. Dating back to the 2019-20 season, Butler led the Heat to the NBA Finals during a time of unprecedented change and restrictions on the league. They ultimately lost to the Lakers, but Miami proved that year that they belonged with the best of the best in the East. In the seasons that followed, Miami failed to get make a similar run, until the 2022-23 campaign. After finishing 8th in the standings, Butler led the Heat on a miracle run through the 1-seeded Bucks en route to the Finals.
This season, nobody can predict how the season will end. After a hot start, it was looking like the Heat were on track for another elite season but they’ve fallen off hard of late and it’s causing some to re-think where they rank in the East. At 7th in the standings with a measly 28-24 record, Miami has been rather unimpressive, to say the least. Even so, it’s impossible to count them out completely given what we’ve seen in the past and the trajectory they completed just a few months back. For a guy who doesn’t care about individual stats, Butler will need to do better and make his case in the playoffs if he wants his words about “not caring” to hold any weight in the history books.
