The Golden State Warriors are in a precarious situation, holding a poor 18-22 record and ranking 23rd in the league in defense. There have been many issues in the roster, ranging from Draymond Green’s suspension to Jonathan Kuminga’s frustration and Andrew Wiggins’ trade situation. Undoubtedly, the Warriors are in the mix for a blockbuster deal as soon as possible, and there could be one involving the New York Knicks and Indiana Pacers.

The Knicks made a massive splash already this season, acquiring OG Anunoby and continuing to build on their 7th-ranked defense under Tom Thibodeau’s philosophies. However, they could move on from Julius Randle to maintain cap flexibility and build around Jalen Brunson. Another team in the trade market is the Indiana Pacers, a playoff team with the 1st-ranked offense in the NBA right now headlined by superstar Tyrese Haliburton.

In a blockbuster three-team trade proposal, the Warriors can engage in a deal that gives them three new starting-caliber players while the Knicks and Pacers also head in different directions before the trade deadline.

Trade Details

Golden State Warriors Receive: Julius Randle, Buddy Hield, Myles Turner

New York Knicks Receive: Draymond Green, Gary Payton II, 2028 First-Round Pick

Indiana Pacers Receive: Andrew Wiggins, Jonathan Kuminga, Kevon Looney, 2026 Second-Round Pick

This trade could change the direction of three teams which could have a lasting effect on both the Western and Eastern Conference. Here is why this deal works for every team involved, especially the Golden State Warriors.

Warriors Get Better On Both Ends Of The Court, Saving Their Dynasty

The Warriors can benefit greatly from this shocking deal. Julius Randle provides a significant offensive boost, adding a versatile and skilled forward who can score both inside and outside. Randle’s ability to create his own shot and contribute in various facets of the game aligns well with the Warriors’ fast-paced, ball-sharing system under coach Steve Kerr. This season, Randle is posting 24.2 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game on 46.8% from the field. Myles Turner (17.2 PPG, 7.3 RPG, 1.9 BPG), a superior defensive presence compared to Kevon Looney, strengthens the team’s interior defense and shot-blocking capabilities, addressing a notable gap in their current lineup.

Buddy Hield’s inclusion further enhances the Warriors’ three-point shooting, fitting seamlessly into their perimeter-oriented style of play. With the lethal shooting duo of Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, Hield (12.7 PPG on 38.0% 3-PT FG) becomes an ideal floor spacer and adds another dynamic scoring threat. Andrew Wiggins, who has been on the trading block, and Jonathan Kuminga, who has expressed concerns about his role, could find new opportunities with the respective teams they are traded to.

Moreover, the decision to part ways with Draymond Green, despite his integral role in the Warriors’ success over the years, might be influenced by his recent suspensions and the need for a fresh start. Overall, this proposed trade aligns with the Warriors’ goal of optimizing their roster around the sharpshooting backcourt of Curry and Thompson on both ends of the court and also saving a dynasty that is on the cusp of toppling.

Knicks Become An Elite Defensive Team Around Jalen Brunson

From the New York Knicks’ perspective, this proposed trade could help form the team in Thibodeau’s system. The acquisition of OG Anunoby earlier in the season already strengthened the Knicks’ 7th-ranked defense, and the addition of Draymond Green and Gary Payton II further solidifies their status as one of the league’s elite defensive teams. Green (9.5 PPG, 5.6 RPG, 5.7 APG), a seasoned and versatile defender, brings leadership and championship experience which is sorely needed.

While Julius Randle has been a key contributor to the Knicks, there might be concerns about his long-term fit within the team considering he is making $30,317,760 next season. The decision to part ways with Randle and acquire two elite defensive players in return reflects a commitment to building a defensive identity. Gary Payton II’s defensive prowess (1.1 SPG, 0.3 BPG), particularly as a guard, adds depth to their backcourt defense.

The inclusion of a 2028 first-round pick from the Golden State Warriors provides the Knicks with future flexibility and the potential to secure additional talent in upcoming drafts as they have had success with the likes of Mitchell Robinson, RJ Barrett, and Obi Toppin in recent seasons. Offensively, the emergence of Jalen Brunson (25.8 PPG, 6.4 APG) as a star player can fill the void left by Randle. Brunson’s offensive skills make him a reliable primary option, and his playmaking ability complements the defensive focus of the team.

Pacers Continue Their Ascension In The Eastern Conference

For the Indiana Pacers, this proposed trade enhances their already potent offense while injecting athleticism, defense, and youth into their roster. Currently boasting the number one ranked offense in the NBA (125.6 PPG) led by superstar Tyrese Haliburton (23.6 PPG, 12.5 APG), the Pacers aim to continue their success by acquiring players who align with their up-tempo playing style under coach Rick Carlisle.

Andrew Wiggins, known for his two-way capabilities when performing at his best, can seamlessly fit into the Pacers’ fast-paced system. His scoring ability, combined with defensive skills, complements the offensive firepower already present in the team. The addition of Jonathan Kuminga adds a promising young talent with the potential to grow into a star, following a trajectory similar to Haliburton’s development under Carlisle.

In terms of size and interior presence, the inclusion of Kevon Looney helps compensate for the departure of Myles Turner. While not an exact replacement, Looney brings size and defensive capability as he is posting 5.7 points and 7.1 rebounds per game in only 20.5 minutes per game. The emphasis on youth is crucial for the Pacers, as Wiggins and Kuminga bring a combination of experience and untapped potential. This deal could give the Pacers greater ability on both ends, particularly as it pertains to their 28th-ranked defense which could use a boost.
