Amid his return to Cleveland this weekend, Lakers star LeBron James spoke about where it all began and reflected on the origins of his basketball journey. After the win over the Cavaliers, he also spoke about the opening of “LeBron James’ Home Court,” a museum dedicated to his life and legendary career.
“It’s special for the community and my foundation and for the people that’s followed me in my journey to be a part of it… I used to get on my mom about saving everything… and she kind of threw it back in my face (with the museum exhibits) and a lot of stuff in there is because of stuff that she saved. My mom had trophies from when I was like, my first basketball game ever, my first football game ever. And she got my trophy from when I was nine years old, stuff like that. But it’s pretty cool that I’ve been able to do things in my life that I’ve been able to give back to my community, highlight my community.”

A lot of fans weren’t vibing with the project, calling LeBron a narcissist for daring to build a museum on his own life but clearly, LeBron doesn’t see it that way. He sees this venue as a beacon of pride and hope for the community and he hopes that it will inspire thousands of people to pursue their own passions in life. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that the ticket sales from the museum go towards his charity, the LeBron James Family Foundation.
A Humble Begining For The King
While LeBron James is widely recognized around the world as a premier NBA athlete, he didn’t start off that way. In fact, throughout most of his childhood, LeBron lived a relatively modest life in Akron, Ohio with his single mother, Gloria. Life was unstable for James growing up and he was often forced from place to place as his mother tried to keep up with growing financial demands.
Of course, by the time LeBron made the NBA, he had already secured millions as part of a Nike deal and he’d go on to net hundreds of millions over his basketball career. Today, James is one of the few athletes ever with a net worth of at least $1 billion and his wealth is projected to rise over the remainder of his life. So while some might see it as egotistical for LeBron to launch his own museum, it’s not far-fetched given the impact he’s had on that community and the sports world as a whole.
LeBron Is Not Done Yet
Perhaps the biggest question for no. 23 is how much time he has left as one of the elite players in the game. At age 38, in his 21st season, he’s having one of his best stretches yet and is showing no signs of slowing down. Through 15 games so far, LeBron is averaging 25.7 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 6.7 assists per game on 57% shooting.
Meanwhile, the Lakers are up to 10-7 on the season after their latest win and they look on track to be a major contender in the West playoffs this season. If Anthony Davis can stay healthy and find some consistency, it could put the Lakers in a position to make some serious noise. But at this point, LeBron has nothing left to prove in the NBA and any accolade he achieves is really just icing on the cake for his All-Time resume.
