Jordan Poole has gone viral yet again, but this time it was for being very focused during a timeout in the game against the Milwaukee Bucks on Friday night, following recent criticism.

Poole had paid no attention to his head coach during a timeout in their game against the Brooklyn Nets on Sunday and had gotten hammered on social media for it. He could have been so focused here to avoid getting called out again, or it was because it was a very pivotal moment of the game.

The Washington Wizards were down 129-126 with 16.1 seconds remaining when they took this timeout and had a good chance of sending the contest to overtime. They came up short in the end, though, losing 131-128. It was their sixth straight defeat in what has been a nightmarish season.

Jordan Poole Spoke On The Viral Timeout Moment In Brooklyn

His antics against the Nets were part of a growing lowlight reel for the 24-year-old in his stint with the Wizards. Not long after, Poole did open up on the viral timeout moment when he ignored his head coach, and he defended himself.

“How is somebody supposed to give that commentary from the middle of the stands? I can’t do anything about it. Sometimes I sit down, sometimes I don’t. Coaches do their huddles early on to figure out what they will do. It’s such a long time too, it’s a two-minute timeout. Coaches are talking for like 35 seconds. I saw the play, I went back just to ask a question just to make sure. Just continue to be vocal and communicate with my teammates. It’s a very normal timeout honestly, wasn’t anything that was different.”

While you obviously can’t tell for sure from a distance what exactly went down, the video was pretty damning. You could see one of the assistant coaches and even his teammates telling him to pay attention to what Wes Unseld Jr. was saying, but he brushed them off.

Jordan Poole’s Rough 2023-24 Season

This 2023-24 season certainly hasn’t gone as planned so far for Poole and the Wizards. He is averaging just 17.7 points, 2.7 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 1.1 steals, and 0.4 blocks per game while shooting 39.9% from the field and 28.6% from beyond the arc. He hasn’t shot the ball so inefficiently since his rookie season and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a player’s stock plummet as quickly as Poole’s has.

Just over a month back, Kevin Garnett called Poole the new James Harden, as he compared his departure from the Warriors to that of Harden from OKC. Garnett thought so highly of the 24-year-old, that he stated he expected him to be top five in the NBA in scoring.

To say the Hall of Famer has now changed his tune would be an understatement. Earlier this week, Garnett said Poole does not belong in the NBA and blasted him for his terrible attitude. He said he wouldn’t want his son to be with a player like the Wizards guard.

To make matters worse for Poole, he was ruled out for the game against the Atlanta Hawks on Saturday night with left ankle soreness. He had tweaked it just before the game and it remains to be seen how long he’ll be on the sidelines because of it. The Wizards were blown out without him and have now fallen to 2-14.
