Former No. 1 overall pick Joe Smith got the shock of his life recently when he found out that his wife, Kisha Chavis, is on OnlyFans. Smith, who had been selected with the first pick by the Golden State Warriors in 1995, could be seen expressing his disappointment in a video that Chavis herself shared online.
“This is stupid, yo,” Smith said. “I can’t believe I’m sitting here just finding out you got an OnlyFans. All these years, the disrespect that comes with it that you couldn’t even talk to me before you did. That’s bulls***. f***ed up. I’m telling you, that’s f***ed up.”
You can certainly understand why Smith would be furious about this. Chaves, however, defended her decision not to tell him about it earlier.
“I’m not doing it with anybody but myself,” Chaves said. “So why should I have to tell you? My choice, my body. My body, my f***ing choice… I’ve been asking for solutions to s*** (and) you not giving me none so I created one.”
Smith felt it wasn’t a solution to anything and called her out for showing her body. Chaves claims she had to do something and says there is more to OnlyFans than what Smith was thinking.
While I won’t criticize anyone for opening an OnlyFans account, she certainly should have told him about it. If the situation was really as desperate as Chavis claims it was, Smith either would have to have to accept what she was going to do or provide her assistance in some form.
To go behind his back and do this is just a very bad look for her. You also question why she put this out there on social media. There is absolutely no reason for this to be shared with the public, and it just makes it seem as if she’s doing it to generate some buzz regarding her account.
Joe Smith Ended Up In Debt Despite Earning Over $60 Million In Salaries In The NBA
You may wonder how on earth a former NBA player who played 16 seasons in the league could be struggling financially. Well, the problem for Smith, who averaged 10.9 points, 6.4 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 0.6 steals, and 0.8 blocks per game during his career, is that he ended up throwing away most of what he earned.
During an appearance on “Back in the Game” in 2018, Smith told Alex Rodriguez how it all went wrong. Smith explained that while he collected $61 million in salaries, he actually could only take home around $18 million. The rest went into taxes, agent fees, and management fees.
Another issue arose due to Smith being one of the most traded players in NBA history. He would end up being on the active roster for 12 different teams and every time he was at a new location, he bought a new house. Then when he was traded away, he lost money on sales, as everyone knew he had no option but to sell.
In 2011, Smith’s first wife Yolanda divorced him after he cheated on her. He had to make child support payments after that, which added another financial burden on him.
Despite all of that, Smith still spent recklessly buying expensive cars and the situation only worsened after he got together with Chavis. The two got married in 2018 and were spending $133,000 per year, while only making $26,000. That’s a recipe for disaster and they’d end up having a debt of over $150,000 at one point.
As per online sources, Smith now has a net worth of -$100,000, so the situation still isn’t great by any means. It still doesn’t excuse Chavis for not telling him about the account, though.
