LeBron James has expressed support for Israel with a statement issued to social media on behalf of SpringHill Company, alongside business partner Maverick Carter.
“The devastation in Israel is tragic and unacceptable. The murder and violence against innocent people by Hamas is terrorism. The SpringHill Company family sends our deepest condolences to Israel and the Jewish community. We pray for peace in the region and reiterate our continued commitment to fight hate in all its forms. We must work to ensure this tragedy does not spread even more hate, racism, and antisemitism.”

Ever since the recent escalation of violence by the Palestinian militant group Hamas within the sovereign borders of Israel, many NBA teams and players have come out with statements supporting Israel. However, this conversation is far more nuanced than saying one side is right and the other side is wrong.
NBA players have often fought against people trying to minimize their political voice, whether it’s because they don’t respect their race or profession. That has changed and NBA players have some of the biggest platforms in the world to influence actual political change in the world.
When it’s speaking about issues that represent their interests, everyone is the first to talk. But it seems most corporations and NBA teams are willing to let the Palestinian people suffer at the hands of Israel, as this is a conflict that stretches back nearly 100 years. Hamas’ violent actions are deplorable, but to act like Israel hasn’t been systematically dropping bombs across densely populated areas for years is not right either.
Kyrie Irving Staying Politically Active With His Comments
Kyrie Irving is one of the few league-related personnel who hasn’t come out with a statement in support of Israel, but for good reason. Irving has a past where he’s been called anti-Semitic, which would be one of the first words thrown at him if he made any outward statement blaming one side or the other.
He has regularly been sharing his thoughts on social media, initially condemning the violence in the region, especially with the children who are being harmed.
“My Heart mourns for all of the innocent lives lost in the crossfires of War. GOD never intended for Humanity to destroy one another.”

He took a more aggressive tone yesterday, calling out the biases in media that prevent them from reporting on this matter truthfully.
“Where are all you tough-talking Media Heads that get on TV and social platforms to condemn people who stand by the oppressed?? Crimes are being committed against humanity and most of you are silent. Cat got your tongue? Or you’re afraid of actually standing for something real.”

Irving is trying to balance a line he knows could get him in trouble, with him losing sponsorships and respect around the league after his anti-Semitic scandal from last season.
LeBron’s New Teammate’s Wife Expressed Support For Palestine
The Lakers signed Taurean Prince this summer and his wife, Hanah Usman reshared a message on Instagram that made it clear that supporting the people of Palestine isn’t the same as supporting the violence caused by Hamas.
“You can support the Palestinians and their right to end occupation and not support Hamas. You can be an advocate of Palestinians’ rights and not endorse Hezbollah or Iran’s regime. You can be pro-Palestinian without being anti-Semitic.”
This debate is going to take a lot of media attention for the next few weeks, but it seems NBA media is primarily concerned with the start of the season. Hopefully, we can live in a reality where Israel and Palestine can come up with a compromise, but that seems quite a ways away.
