• Chris Finch gave Fadeaway World a detailed look into Anthony Edwards’ preseason debut for the Wolves

• Edwards missed the first game against the Mavericks in Abu Dhabi

• The 2020 No. 1 overall pick scored 13 points in this game

The Minnesota Timberwolves had mercurial star Anthony Edwards make his 2023/24 preseason debut in Abu Dhabi today. Wolves head coach Chris Finch gave Fdaeaway World an in-depth analysis of Edwards after the 13-point outing from his preseason debut.

“I thought it was a great first game for Anthony. He went out there and played hard defensively. He was very active and engaged. Offensively, he let the game unfold. He made a lot of simple plays, the right plays. When he faced the crowd, he just got off of it. Created a lot of good offense for his teammates. He made some tough shots in a somewhat spectacular way at times. He has the talent to do so. It was good to see him back there. He was upset he didn’t get the chance to play the other night and he really brought it tonight. It’s good to see the chemistry between him and KAT growing, it’s a big point of emphasis for us.”

Edwards is coming off an active summer, playing a leading role for Team USA in the FIBA World Cup. Unfortunately, it was all for nothing as Team USA failed to medal.

With a national superteam likely being formed next season, Edwards will have to have a breakout season this year to ensure he cements himself as one of the best in the leagues to get called up to the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Anthony Edwards Primed For A Breakout Year

Many would argue that Anthony Edwards had his breakout season last year as he was named to an All-Star team. While that might be a breakout year for many, Edwards is a former No. 1 overall pick who could one day be a league superstar. There is another leap for him to unlock and become one of the best two-way swingmen in the league.

Edwards averaged 24.6 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 4.4 assists last season. He showed terrific growth while playing in the FIBA World Cup, having a far more refined and polished game as compared to what we saw earlier in his career. Edwards is a very patient scorer and can pick his sports really well, though his efficiency still has a long way to go for him to be considered a surgical scorer or shotmaker.

Finch also spoke about the importance of Karl-Anthony Towns mentoring Edwards so the pair can essentially rise together. But with the age gap between the two, it’s clear that Edwards is getting better as time passes. With Edwards just entering his peak, he has a lot more incredible things to achieve on the court.
