Kyrie Irving has been one of the most electric players of the last decade, with his handles and finishing abilities blowing the minds of an entire generation of fans. A lot of hard work went into helping Irving reach the NBA, but he manifested this success for himself as well. Irving shared a note he wrote in fourth grade on social media, where he proclaims he will be in the NBA one day.

“The Power of I AM. I Wrote it down and followed through. 4th Grade Version of Me is Proud I stuck with it and achieved something special.”

Irving has done more than just make it to the NBA. He is a former champion and will be remembered as one of the greatest dribblers the league has ever seen. There have been challenging times during Irving’s 12-year tenure in the NBA, but none of that takes away from the incredible talent he has always had.

Kyrie Irving Has Had An Incredible Career So Far

Kyrie Irving was drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2011 Draft. He made an instant impact on the Cavaliers and made the franchise an attractive enough destination for LeBron James to come back in 2014. The James-Irving duo was one of the most feared of the 2010s but only lasted three seasons after Irving left for the Boston Celtics in 2017. At least he hit the biggest shot in Cavs’ history in the 2016 Finals before leaving the franchise.

His Celtics tenure wasn’t smooth, with Kyrie leaving in 2019 for the Brooklyn Nets. Despite promising on-court play with the Nets, a mixture of injuries and off-court issues meant that the team couldn’t win with Kyrie. They dealt him to the Mavericks in February 2023, where he re-signed this summer to be Luka Doncic’s co-star.

Irving has averaged 23.4 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 5.7 assists over his career. He’s made three All-NBA teams and eight All-Star teams while also winning All-Star Game MVP in 2014.

Kyrie Irving Is Considered The Best Isolation Guard In The NBA

Tracy McGrady recently made a bold claim about Kyrie being the best isolation guard in the NBA. This could be influenced by Kyrie’s otherworldly on-ball ability, but McGrady knowingly mentioned Irving ahead of the likes of Stephen Curry and Damian Lillard.

“I think there are a handful of guards that I think are must-see TV in 1v1… Steph, Kyrie, Dame is one of those guys. I would even put somebody like Bradley Beal in there. De’Aaron Fox. But to me, it’s Kyrie [Irving]. He’s the best guard in the league 1v1.”

Kyrie used to be called one of the toughest players to face in a one-on-one because of how deep his dribble package is. Add that to his ability to convert below the rim and his shooting touch, it is almost impossible to say Kyrie can be outmatched by anyone in his position.

I may personally prefer Lillard’s superior shooting ability and explosive driving ability to Irving’s more methodical style, but there is no doubting how effective Kyrie can be. He averaged 27.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 6.0 assists with the Mavericks in 20 games last season, hoping to take a step forward in the 2023/24 season.
