The only way this trade happens is if there’s a team that can match the Porter Jr. contract without losing a rotational player. Given the value of draft assets, especially first-round picks, some front office could be convinced into taking a short-term salary hit for the long-term success of draft assets.
The Knicks could be in this mix. They have enough draft assets sitting around, but with the possibility for former MVPs Giannis Antetokounmpo and Joel Embiid moving away from the team that drafted them, the Knicks would love to have even more assets to throw at the Bucks or 76ers to ensure no one else can acquire them. Outside of that, it seems many teams could avoid touching this situation with a 10-foot pole. Porter Jr. doesn’t belong in the NBA after an action like this.
