• After promising to put games on free TV, Ishbia is going a step further and offering free Pay TV subscriptions

• Ishbia became owner of the Suns in February 2023

Phoenix Suns owner Mat Ishbia is heavily improving the fan experience of watching the Suns in the home city. The new owner announced earlier that he intended to make all Suns games free to watch in Phoenix and is now offering to ship Pay TV subscriptions and TV antennas for free to any fans that sign up.

“Phoenix Suns owner Mat Ishbia announced earlier this year that the team would remove its games from cable. By making the games free to watch on local channels, roughly 2 million more people could watch Suns games. ‘We’re not focusing on money. We’re focusing on winning, success, and taking care of fans.’ But now Mat Ishbia is taking it a step further. The Suns are giving away free indoor TV antennas to any fans who don’t already have a Pay TV subscription. You just go to their website, fill out a form, and they will ship the antenna to your house.”

Ishbia has been focused on bringing new ways of thinking to the NBA. With regional sports networks around the country struggling to stay afloat, the Suns have decided to make a consumer-friendly move to make viewing games free for residents instead of paywalling it behind expensive subscriptions like the one they had with Bally Sports before.

The Suns were in conversations to acquire Kevin Durant in the summer of 2022, where they categorically declined a trade due to the inclusion of Mikal Bridges, after Ishbia took over, he instantly decided to make the Durant trade without holding Bridges back onto the roster.

After acquiring Durant and exiting in the second round of the NBA playoffs due to a lack of depth, the Suns have had a pretty interesting offseason. It started with the acquisition of Bradley Beal for Chris Paul, a move that has made the Suns arguably the most offensively potent team in the NBA.

With an offseason that has seen them sign the likes of Eric Gordon and Bol Bol, the Suns will be among the contenders to win the 2023-24 NBA title. This would be a massive win for Ishbia, who would win the title in his first full year of ownership, similar to Lakers’ owner Jerry Buss in 1979.

The Phoenix Big Three Is The Best In The NBA

The top three of the Suns roster is incredibly stacked. Devin Booker is likely going to be the leader of this team and averaged 33.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 7.2 assists in the 2023 Playoffs, showing he could dominate with a fleshed-out roster around him.

Kevin Durant is aging and may not be the same player he used to be after years of injuries, but he’s still arguably one of the best scorers in the league. He averaged 29.1 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 5.0 assists last season and made the Suns one of the scariest teams in the NBA before the team even had an offseason to build out the roster. Durant is also among the seven ‘star players’ that are allowed to rest throughout the season.

Bradley Beal is the biggest question mark. He’s coming off a disappointing season with the Washington Wizards, averaging 23.2 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 5.4 assists last season. His numbers will remain the same if not fall, given the talent around him, but no team in the NBA can boast of having a third option on their roster that is the same level as Beal.
