  • Joe Lacob revealed the Warriors aren’t planning to trade Paul
  • Paul was moved to the Warriors in a deal that sent Jordan Poole to the Washington Wizards

The Golden State Warriors made a move for Chris Paul this offseason, in a shocking trade that sent young guard Jordan Poole to the Washington Wizards. It is clear that the team is trying to win immediately, and is aiming to do so by adding veterans who are willing to buy into the team’s system.

There have been some people, however, who have suggested that the Warriors acquired Chris Paul for financial purposes. His contract for the 2024-25 season is non-guaranteed and thus Paul could be used in a trade for a team that wants to clear salary. However, governor Joe Lacob stated that the team’s goal is not to “trade Chris Paul away”, and noted that the team is “excited” about his addition.

‘There’s a lot of possibilities,” Lacob said per Tim Kawakami of The Athletic. “… But I don’t think our goal, quite frankly, is to trade Chris Paul away or do something with that contract. We like the idea of having Chris Paul on the team. And we’re excited about it. So let’s see what happens, how it works, and how successful we are, and we’ll take it from there.”

There is no doubt that adding Chris Paul gives the Golden State Warriors a different element on the offensive end. He is a great pick-and-roll player and knows how to get his own shot in the midrange area. It is clear that he will be a good backup for Stephen Curry, and could even close games for the team.

Last season, Chris Paul averaged 13.9 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 8.9 assists per game, while shooting 37.5% from 3PT range. Hopefully, he is able to keep up similar levels of production next season.

Chris Paul’s Trade To The Warriors Was A Surprise

There is no doubt that many were surprised when the Warriors traded Jordan Poole for Chris Paul. After all, Poole signed a four-year $128.0 million contract extension with them after the 2022 championship. Even Chris Paul himself never thought that he would play for the Golden State Warriors. However, everything happens for a reason, and Chris Paul will bring leadership and stability to the team’s bench unit.

Hopefully, we see Chris Paul end up being a great contributor to the Golden State Warriors. A lot of players on the squad are excited to see what he brings to the team just as Joe Lacob is, and perhaps he is the right player to bring them back to championship ways.

Chris Paul Has Never Come Off The Bench In His Career

From his rookie year to this moment, Chris Paul has consistently been a starting-level player. This upcoming season will be his first as a sixth man. In fact, previously, it was revealed that Chris Paul has played 1,363 games without ever coming off the bench.

Chris Paul is the right player to run the bench unit, and he could end up being a difference-maker for them in that role. He could play a role that is reminiscent of one that Shaun Livingston played for the team during their dynastic run, and it’ll be interesting to see what happens with Paul this season.
