  • Channing Frye picked Anthony Edwards over Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to build a team around
  • Both players have been remarkable for their respective franchises this past NBA season
  • The two guards are also looked at as key members of Team USA and Canada in the 2023 FIBA World Cup

Anthony Edwards and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander are widely considered cornerstones of their respective franchises. But for former NBA champion Channing Frye, the choice is clear when it comes to picking one of these two players to build a team around.

Responding to a Legion Hoops post on X (formerly Twitter), Frye picked Edwards to build a team around.

“AnT 10/10 times and I love Shai. ANT Is that dude.”

At present, Gilgeous-Alexander is looked at as one of the best young guards in the league known for his high IQ playmaking skills and shotmaking. He has already been pegged as a potential star next season.

Meanwhile, Edwards has seen a meteoric rise in the NBA. This past season, he made his first All-Star appearance after averaging a healthy 24.6 points, 4.4 assists, and 5.8 rebounds per game and taking the Minnesota Timberwolves to the playoffs.

Both stars are also looked at as the key points of Team USA and Canada’s offense in the ongoing 2023 FIBA World Cup. And if Gilgeous-Alexander has a point to prove to Frye, there’s no better platform than the marquee event where he can take Canada the distance.

Anthony Edwards Has Been Compared To Dwyane Wade

It surely is lofty praise when Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra compared Anthony Edwards to Dwyane Wade.

“It’s hard to look at Anthony Edwards and not see Dwyane Wade… The way he moves, competes, and electrifies the crowd. Yes, that reminds me of number 3,” he said during an interview amid the ongoing FIBA WC.

Edwards has enjoyed stupendous success in the NBA and now will be central in the Timberwolves’ plans of landing a championship alongside Karl-Anthony Towns and Rudy Gobert.

But first, he has a mission to win gold for Team USA, and it will be interesting to see how he fares given all the immense hype.
