Before Kyrie Irving re-signed with the Dallas Mavericks this summer, the world was convinced he’d end up as a Laker. Sadly, that dream is dead now but there are still people out there keeping the movement alive.

This week, one of those Lakers’ hopefuls had an encounter with Irving face-to-face, where they tried to recruit him to LA on camera. Unsurprisingly, Irving denied the young fan with grace.

“Are you going to the Lakers,” the young fan asked. “No bro. No bro. Why did you ask that?! C’mon man, I have to deal all summer with that. I’m in Dallas, bro. C’mon now.”

Irving has been dealing with chatter like this for months. Dating back to his exit from the Nets, Irving let it slip that he was interested in the Lakers and the rumors have not stopped since.

For a while there, it looked like LA was going to make a run at him in free agency this year, but he ended up returning to the Mavericks this offseason on a lucrative multi-year deal.

Kyrie Was Almost A Laker This Summer

While Irving is a Maverick now, there was talk about him reuniting with LeBron James this offseason. On paper, it would be a match made in heaven but it just wasn’t meant to be for the Lakeshow, who decided to pursue supporting talent instead of additional star power.

Moving forward, it’s possible that Irving might join the Lakers sometime down the road — but, for now, he seems content with his situation in Dallas. Together, with Luka Doncic, he’ll have the chance to win big and change the narrative surrounding his career.

Only time will tell how history remembers Irving, but Lakers fans will surely never forget how close he was to repping the Purple and Gold.
