  • Gilbert Arenas was bewildered by Kobe Bryant’s work ethic
  • Bryant was drenched in sweat even at 3 AM in the gym
  • Arenas took a cab to see it with his own eyes

Kobe Bryant was arguably the hardest-working player to ever play in the NBA. There are many stories about the late NBA legend’s insane work ethic.

Former NBA player Gilbert Arenas shared a story of how he couldn’t believe that Kobe Bryant used to work out in the gym at 3 AM. Arenas took a cab and decided to pay a visit to Bryant.

“No one tells us how to be great,” Arenas said. “So, I got a call, ‘Hey, what is Kobe doing over there?’ Oh yeah, he waking up at 3. At the gym at 3 [am]. ‘No, he ain’t.’ Take a cab, let’s go, let me see. Oh, he here. Oh, he really here. Now I get to watch him how he works. Let me see how he works. He’s in full sweat.

“He going through a full game live battling, getting hit, going hard line drills up and down, doing the same move 300 times-400 times. Is he playing today? And then come out in a game give you 30 something.”

If there’s one thing Kobe Bryant never let anyone get the better of him, it was practice. Bryant wanted to be the first one to arrive at practice and the last one to leave. The result of his lethal work ethic could be seen throughout his career.

He won five NBA Championships throughout his career, among various other accolades.

Jerry West Once Praised Kobe Bryant’s Incredible Work Ethic

Kobe Bryant was praised for his incredible work ethic by many NBA legends throughout his career.

Los Angeles Lakers legend Jerry West once shared his two cents about Kobe Bryant’s phenomenal work ethic.

“To watch him work out was like ridiculous,” West said. “Like a man playing against kindergarten people. That’s how advanced he was. He was versatile, but he was a ferocious defender. That’s all he did, he wanted to compete. He was unbelievably skilled, his work ethic second to none, he wasn’t afraid of anything.

“And it was genuine, it’s not verbiage. You go around training camp, and you watch him, it’s like you almost felt you had to strap him down. He could not sit down. He was just a natural player who, when he was born there was a heck of a lot of gold dust sprinkled on this kid.”

Bryant averaged 25.0 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 4.7 assists over his 20-year-long career. Had he never worked as hard as he did during his time in the NBA, he would have never reached the level he did.
