The Boston Celtics went all in to trade for Kristaps Porzingis earlier in the summer.  They added him to the roster that already had two All-NBA level players in Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.

Does Porzingis’ addition to the team finally help the Celtics in winning their first NBA Championship since 2008? NBA legend Isiah Thomas is a firm believer in that fact.

“Maybe Porzingis is the missing piece,” Thomas said, per Sports Illustrated. “They have all the pieces, and should be favored to win it all. They did have to trade Marcus Smart, but the core of the team is still intact. The Celtics have been knocking on the door for so long. Think about the success Tatum and Brown have had at such young ages. Not many people have that type of success without winning a championship.”

Thomas added: “They’ve been to four Eastern Conference Finals and one NBA Final. It’s pretty remarkable that they’ve been knocking on the door for so long and they haven’t won it yet.”

As Thomas mentioned, the Celtics have been to four Eastern Conference Finals and one NBA Final in the last seven years. However, they are yet to lift the Larry O’Brien trophy with the current core of the team.

But adding Porzingis to the roster may ultimately help them cross the hump. Porzingis averaged 23.2 PPG, 8.4 RPG, and 2.7 APG last season.

Are The Boston Celtics The Favorites To Win The 2024 NBA Championship?

With the Big 3 of Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, and Kristaps Porzingis, the Celtics are among the favorites to lift the 2024 NBA Championship.

In fact, Stephen A. Smith declared the Celtics as the favorites to win it all in the upcoming season. Meanwhile, NBA insider Chris Mannix believes the team got worse after trading for Porzingis.

Fans will find out who is correct over the course of the next season. The Celtics were the second seed in the East with a 57-25 record in the 2022-23 season. But they were eliminated in seven games by the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals.
