NBA insider Shams Charania reported an interesting development regarding Damian Lillard to the Miami Heat narrative that’s been doing the rounds since June.

Per The Rally Sports, Charania revealed that the Portland Trail Blazers had reportedly thrown down the gauntlet to the Heat.

“Make your best offer to us.”

At the time of writing, there have been two concrete developments — one of them being Lillard’s Miami or bust stance and the other being a trade package centering around Tyler Herro and draft picks.

Earlier, another NBA insider Greg Sylvander predicted that the Heat will have to give up a huge trade package for the 32-year-old, which includes Tyler Herro, Duncan Robinson, and a substantial amount of draft compensation.

While the trade is moving at a snail’s pace at the time of writing, the general consensus is that Lillard will eventually end up at the Heat. This remains to be seen though, as the offseason chugs on.

Expect The Damian Lillard Trade To Take Time

With Blazers GM Joe Cronin taking his time to move the needle on the trade, the Lillard story will drag on for some more time as Portland is looking for players who can bolster the franchise in return.

Previously, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski said that the Lillard saga could take its own time.

“It could take months, it could take weeks,” said Wojnarowski. “I think there is an absence of a real deadline lurking on a Damian Lillard trade. There’s no trade deadline coming, there’s no NBA draft. There’s no July 1 free agency about to start. All those marks in the NBA calendar give teams motivation and parameters to get big deals done.”

“The next deadline for any of these teams is the start of training camp in late September. And so I think for the Portland Trail Blazers, they don’t want to rush into what they consider to be a bad deal. The Miami Heat, the team that is most motivated to try and trade for Damian Lillard, where he wants to end up, they don’t want to be in a situation where they are bidding against themselves.”
