Load management has become a recurring issue in the modern NBA. It’s something that retired players loathe. Many former NBA stars, including Dennis Rodman, have used load management as a knock on LeBron James when crowning Michael Jordan as the GOAT.

Rodman did that in a 2017 interview with CBS Sports, but more on that later. His former teammate and Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr called out the Worm’s complaints about load management.

“I saw Dennis Rodman was complaining about it, and I got a good kick out of that,” Kerr said. “Because I thought, well Dennis was suspended for 15 games a year anyway, he got plenty of rest. Or Vegas, or he went to Wrestlemania. He just took a night off whenever he wanted, so he can’t complain.”

Steve Kerr subtly called out Dennis Rodman for his comments. As for Rodman, he famously took a break in the middle of the 1997-98 NBA season and went to Las Vegas with Carmen Electra. It was undoubtedly one of the best examples of load management.

Rodman also skipped practice after winning Game 3 of the 1998 NBA Finals vs. the Utah Jazz. Why? He made an appearance on WCW Nitro with wrestling legend Hulk Hogan.

Dennis Rodman had unpredictable behavior, but he still played all 82 games in his career five times. Despite that, it would be fair to say the Worm deserves recognition for inventing load management.

Dennis Rodman Said Michael Jordan Never Took Time Off To Rest Like LeBron James

Michael Jordan’s tenacity was one of a kind and fans may never see something like that ever again in the modern NBA. During his career, Jordan played all 82 games in a season nine times. He also had a stretch from March 1995 to June 1998, where he didn’t miss even a single game.

Keeping this in mind, Dennis Rodman called out LeBron James for resting during the season. Rodman shared his thoughts in a 2017 interview with CBS Sports.

“You know what, LeBron’s doing one thing that I always said that Michael Jordan never did,” Rodman said. “He never rested. He played every game. He played every game. LeBron has the position to do this now because they need him. The league needs him that’s why he’s doing all this crazy s**t now like bitching and complaining and all this [BS].”

While what Rodman said is absolutely correct but he forgot to factor in the fact that Jordan retired from the NBA in 1993. He retired from the league after 15 months in 1995. Of course, there were other reasons behind Jordan’s abrupt retirement, but that time off the game allowed his body to get some much-needed rest.

It’s also surprising that LeBron James surpassed Michael Jordan’s total career minutes when he was just 32 years old. The King is now 38 years old and will be heading into the 21st season of his career.
