Anthony Edwards has never been one to be short on confidence at any point in his NBA career. He knows how good he is and pushes himself constantly to reach new heights.

He became an All-Star for the first time last season and agreed on a five-year, $260 million extension with the Minnesota Timberwolves earlier this month. Edwards was recently asked during an interview with Chris Haynes for NBA TV where he currently stands in the NBA and he made quite a bold claim.

Anthony Edwards: “I think I should be in conversations with one of the best players in the NBA. Not now, but after next year I will be.”

Chris Haynes: “Why next year?”

Anthony Edwards: “I mean cuz of the season I’m gonna have.”

Edwards had claimed earlier this year that he is the best player in the league but he seems to have realized there is a bit more work that needs to be done for that.

The 2022-23 season saw him average 24.6 PPG, 5.8 RPG, 4.4 APG, 1.6 SPG, and 0.7 BPG and he has incrementally gotten better as the years have gone by. You’d expect him to improve on those numbers in this upcoming campaign, but it’ll have to be some jump for him to be regarded as one of the very best.

Anthony Edwards Is Chasing Michael Jordan

Aiming to become the best player in the NBA is one thing, but Edwards has even loftier goals than that. He stated in March that he is chasing Michael Jordan and had told his personal trainer when he was a rookie, that he wants to be the greatest shooting guard of all time.

His former teammate Patrick Beverley believes Edwards can be the next MJ and that is saying a lot. Will he though, is another question but there’s no doubt that Edwards could one day be in the conversation for best player in the league. It probably won’t be next year, but that day isn’t too far away.

Marion’s versatility as a defender and his rebounding prowess, despite being just 6’7”, impressed Gautam immensely. He admired Marion’s finishing ability at the rim and his shooting, despite an unconventional jump shot, believing that Marion’s skill set would have been even more appreciated in today’s NBA.This transformative experience not only deepened his love for basketball but also shaped his approach to sports writing, enabling him to connect with readers through vivid storytelling and insightful analysis.
