NBA Fan Made 8 Wrong Predictions After 2017 NBA Draft Night: “Jayson Tatum Bust, Markelle Fultz Star”

An NBA fan hilariously got 8 predictions horribly wrong from the 2017 NBA Draft.

The NBA Draft is very much an imperfect science. Unless you’re talking about a prospect like LeBron James, or Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, there is really no way to know for certain that someone is going to be a star in the NBA.

While it is hard to be right on every prediction regarding these prospects, it is probably harder to be wrong about every single one, but a fan somehow managed to accomplish that feat.

It is incredible how every single one of them ended up being wrong.

Markelle Fultz is starting to turn his career around after a disastrous start, but averages of 14.0 PPG, 3.9 RPG, 5.7 APG, 1.5 SPG, and 0.4 BPG last season are still nowhere near that of a star. Hopefully, he keeps improving as the years go by, and perhaps someday he might become a star.

Lonzo Ball is one where the fan might have a case for being right if he could just get healthy. Still, Lonzo wasn’t exactly playing like a star the last we saw of him, averaging 13.0 PPG, 5.4 RPG, 5.1 APG, 1.8 SPG, and 0.9 BPG in the 2021-22 campaign.

Jayson Tatum is the one that the fan got horribly wrong. He has been an All-Star the last four seasons and averaged 30.1 PPG, 8.8 RPG, 4.6 APG, 1.1 SPG, and 0.7 BPG in this past campaign.

Josh Jackson, meanwhile, isn’t even in the NBA, as he last played a game in 2022. He had signed with the Toronto Raptors ahead of the 2022-23 campaign but was waived and hasn’t been picked up by an NBA team since.

De’Aaron Fox is another “bust” to have become an All-Star and he averaged 25.0 PPG, 4.2 RPG, 6.1 APG, 1.1 SPG, and 0.3 BPG this past season. He has established himself as one of the better point guards in the league now.

Jonathan Isaac was another case of the injury bug, as he missed over two seasons due to an ACL tear. He finally returned to action this season and, in 11 games, averaged 5.0 PPG, 4.0 RPG, 0.5 APG, 1.3 SPG, and 0.4 BPG.

Lauri Markkanen was certainly looked at as somewhat of a bust this time last year, but things have changed now. This past season, he averaged 25.6 PPG, 8.6 RPG, 1.9 APG, 0.6 SPG, and 0.6 BPG and made the All-Star team.

Lastly, Frank Ntilikina averaged just 2.9 PPG, 1.3 RPG, 1.2 APG, and 0.3 SPG for the Dallas Mavericks this past season. He only started five games and is destined for a role on the bench for the rest of his career.

The players selected in the 2023 NBA Draft would certainly be wishing this individual, wherever they are right now, predicted they would be a bust, as his seal of approval seems to be the kiss of death.

The Lonzo Ball Situation

The biggest what-if from this selection of players might ultimately be Ball. While he was a ways away from being a star, he was establishing himself as one of the premiere defensive guards in the league who was also quite effective on offense.

Unfortunately for Lonzo, the last year or so has just been a nightmare. It was reported last month that the Chicago Bulls privately believe he’ll never play again, which would be devastating. We did find out earlier this month that he won’t play in this upcoming season either and it is just not looking good for him at the moment.
