Guard James Harden was one of the best players on the Philadelphia 76ers during the 2022-23 team. However, Harden is a free agent this offseason, and there is a chance that he’ll end up leaving the team.

However, it seems as though there is an “increasingly likely” chance that the Philadelphia 76ers will be able to retain James Harden on a team-friendly deal, according to Kyle Neubeck of The Philly Voice.

“Harden returning to the Sixers on a team-friendly deal remains the focus of Philadelphia’s offseason, and it looks increasingly likely that they might be able to make that happen. The Houston Rockets are Harden’s biggest suitor outside of Philadelphia, but the indication is that they are not willing to go over the top with years or dollars to sign him specifically. Sources told PhillyVoice that Rockets owner Tillman Fertitta wants to establish a more solid culture alongside the arrival of head coach Ime Udoka, and Houston has shown interest in free agents Fred Van Vleet, Brook Lopez, and Dillon Brooks, among others.”

There is no doubt that James Harden is a fantastic player, but he is no longer in his prime. However, it is in the best interest of the 76ers to retain him, and we’ll see what happens in the future.

In the regular season, James Harden put up 21.0 PPG, 6.1 RPG, and 10.7 APG for the Philadelphia 76ers. He is clearly a star-level player, and it’ll be interesting to see what his next contract looks like.

An NBA Executive Thinks James Harden Is No Longer A Max-Level Player

There are definitely some people that are lower on James Harden than the consensus. In fact, one NBA executive suggested that James Harden is no longer a max-level player in the league.

“So James is in that unfortunate circumstance that we talk about all the time. Who’s the last person to know it’s over? The player. His status as a max alpha player in this league, it’s over. He can’t produce wins.”

James Harden is clearly a quality player, but opinions differ on just how much impact he can provide to a team. Hopefully, he gets the contract he wants in a contending situation.
