When he’s healthy, there’s no doubt that Zion Williamson is one of the best young players in the league and the face of the New Orleans Pelicans. He is a top-tier interior scorer, and his athletic gifts and talent level all point to him becoming a future superstar.

Despite his talent level, it is clear that there have been some issues with Zion Williamson off the court. In fact, a recent report from Will Guillory of The Athletic revealed that the team’s frustration with Zion Williamson and vice versa has mounted over the last few months. In fact, the team will reportedly move him before the NBA Draft.

“Still, even if Williamson isn’t moved before Thursday night, that is far from the end of this story. It’s only the beginning, as behind-the-scenes tensions between Williamson and the Pelicans have intensified over the past few months.”

There is no doubt that sometimes, frustration reaches a boiling point. However, it is in the Pelicans’ best interest to make things work with Zion Williamson, as he has the talent to be the No. 1 option on a championship team.

This season, Zion Williamson put up 26.0 PPG, 7.0 RPG, and 4.6 APG for the New Orleans Pelicans. He shot 60.8% from the field and it is clear that his efficiency is next level.

Zion Williamson’s Off-Court Issues Have “Dismayed” High-Ranking Members Of Pelicans

There is no doubt that Zion Williamson’s off-court issues regarding his relations with Moriah Mills have been perceived negatively by many fans. However, that negative perception isn’t limited to fans, as “high-ranking members” of the Pelicans have also been disappointed by Williamson in that regard.

“There has been frenzied speculation about New Orleans dealing with Williamson. The Athletic reported that the Pelicans want to move up in the 2023 draft to select guard Scoot Henderson,” wrote Ian Begley. “Williamson would, presumably, be a key part of a trade up to the top 3 in the draft. Also, high-ranking members of the organization have been dismayed by recent off-court developments around Williamson, as other outlets have noted. The organization recently fired assistant coach Teresa Weatherspoon, a Naismith Hall of Famer who was instrumental in the development of several young Pelicans, including Williamson. Those reading the tea leaves may surmise that Weatherspoon’s firing was related to the team’s issues with Williamson.”

It remains to be seen if Zion Williamson does, in fact, get moved. However, the smoke has definitely been there, and it is clear that a trade is a higher possibility than ever before.
