Dennis Rodman enjoyed a great 14-year spell in the NBA, where he won five NBA Championships (1989, 1990, 1996, 1997, 1998).
Rodman was a beast on the court and is regarded as the greatest rebounder of all time. However, the Worm’s career in the league is far less interesting than his life off the court. In a recent interview with ‘VladTV,’ Rodman revealed that his father had 16 wives and 29 kids. Yes, you read it right.
“All I knew was I was the first one,” Rodman said while laughing. “I was the first one, so based on that, I don’t know what he did. I heard some stories, but I read a book that he wrote about me, and he has 16 wives. 16 wives, and it was like with 29 kids, or like, I don’t know, man. I was just trying to do no research or background on him, but that’s all I heard about him. 16 wives, 29 kids. That’s what I heard.”
After the surprising revelation, Rodman was asked if he had ever met his half-brothers or half-sisters.
“I met a couple because they wanted money,” Rodman added. “He got these women coming to ask me, ‘Do you know this is your brother?’ I said, ‘What do you mean?’… They got their hands out because I’m the famous one in the whole family. So it’s like they expect me to just throw money out there.”

Rodman was unsure about the exact number, but he gave a rough idea that his father had 16 wives and 29 kids. Although Rodman was the eldest among all his siblings, it didn’t make his life easier.
Despite all the obstacles Rodman faced during his childhood, he became one of the best basketball players to ever step foot in the NBA.
Dennis Rodman Emotionally Discussed His Relationship With His Father
Philander Rodman was Dennis’ father. He passed away in July 2020 due to prostate cancer. Philander was 79 years old at the time and was in the Philippines at the time of his death.
The Worm could never forge a father-son bond with Philander. In 1996, Rodman emotionally shared his lack of relationship with his father.
“I had to be my own man, my own provider,” Rodman said. “I don’t know [what my father would think about me], I don’t really consider I have a father because I don’t really know him really.”
The Worm added: “I was three or four and I’m 34 now, going 35, and I don’t know what he’s doing. He’s in the Philippines doing something, and now he’s going around wearing my jerseys, he’s proud, and I ask myself, ‘How can someone be proud of someone which hasn’t been part of my life?’ You know, I can’t accept that.”
Three years after Philander’s passing, Rodman is now 62 years old and is enjoying retirement. Sure, he may have a few regrets about never having a relationship with his father, but he has most likely made peace with it.
