The Atlanta Hawks suffered a first-round exit in the playoffs for the second year in a row in 2023, as the Boston Celtics eliminated them in six games.

Last year, they made a big splash by trading for Dejounte Murray in the hopes of becoming a serious contender but they are going a different route this time around. NBA insider Jake Fischer is reporting that the Hawks are open to trading everyone on the team, except for Trae Young.

“The Hawks have told opposing teams Atlanta is open to conversations about all of its roster outside of Trae Young, league sources told Yahoo Sports,” Fischer wrote.

Insider Jovan Buha had recently reported that the Los Angeles Lakers had internal discussions on a trade for Young, but the Hawks seem to want to keep him. Trae had another pretty good season on an individual level in 2022-23, with averages of 26.2 PPG, 3.0 RPG, 10.2 APG, and 1.1 SPG.

He certainly has his flaws, but still plays at a very high level and there aren’t too many players in the league who can match his production. The Hawks have been trying to find a way to retool this roster around Trae, but not much has been done so far except for the trade for Murray last year.

NBA Executives Anticipate That Trae Young Will Eventually Ask To Be Traded

While Young stated after the Denver Nuggets won the title that the Hawks will be the champions next year, executives around the league don’t think he’ll be there for much longer. Just as Fischer reported, they don’t believe the Hawks would trade Young this offseason, but they anticipate that he will eventually ask out.

Young did state that new head coach Quin Snyder will win a championship for Atlanta but if the 2023-24 campaign isn’t going according to plan, he might want out. There will certainly be a lot of interest in his services but he is under contract till the 2026-27 season when he has a player option, so the Hawks wouldn’t be in a hurry to trade him.
