For most players, winning the NBA Championship and holding the Larry O’Brien trophy is all they dream about. Over the years, countless legacies have been defined made by the victors who won that prize and it’s a moment that not every player gets to experience.

For Nikola Jokic and the Nuggets, they should be feeling pretty good now after winning the title on Monday. But instead, Jokic seemed to downplay the moment as he reminded everyone that there’s more to his life than basketball.

“We succeeded in our jobs and we won the whole thing,” he said. “It’s an amazing feeling. But like I said before, it’s not everything in the world. … There is bunch of things that I like to do. Probably that’s a normal thing. Nobody likes his job, or maybe they do. They’re lying. It’s a good feeling but it’s not everything.”

It’s certainly an honest take from Jokic. Even if he’s not wrong with his statement, fans aren’t used to hearing stars talk like this during what’s supposed to be the biggest moment of victory and celebration all season.

All throughout the Finals, Jokic seemed almost disinterested in the theatre and has repeatedly expressed his desire to just go home back to Serbia.

Will The Nuggets Repeat As Champions?

While the Joker may not care for all the publicity behind the NBA journey, nobody can doubt his commitment to winning. Next season, regardless of who the Nuggets lose, Jokic is going to have this team in the hunt for the title again and it will likely stay that way for years to come.

“This was a historic run,” said Michael Porter Jr. “I don’t know how you could say he’s not the best big man ever really. He’s one of the all-time great basketball players, I don’t care what anyone says. I think he’s one of the all-time best players to ever play this game so to be on his team, he makes it easy for the rest of us.”

Jokic is no doubt counting down the hours until he can return home and forget about basketball for a few weeks. But he should probably start getting used to this process if he plans on continuing this path of success.
