Coming into the 2022-23 season, nobody believed in Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets. For one reason or another, the doubters were plentiful and it took a nearly flawless playoff run for them to finally get the respect they’ve deserved for years.

Normally, Jokic doesn’t bother to engage with the critics or naysayers, but in a sit down with Malika Andrews, he sent a message to the haters as an NBA champ that went viral across social media:

“They didn’t believe in the fat boy,” Jokic joked. “It seems like it worked out. Don’t bet against the fat boy!”

What’s crazy about the Joker is that he doesn’t look like an unstoppable force. To the casual fan, he might even look slow and out of shape. But the results speak for themselves, and Nikola Jokic proved to be unstoppable against even the best defenses in the league.

At this point, it’s impossible to deny the Joker as the best in the game. After averaging a near triple-double in the regular season and playoffs, he’s doing things we never thought possible and making it look easy in the process.

Is Jokic Building A Case To Be The Best Big Man Ever?

At 28 years old, the story is still being written on Nikola Jokic’s NBA career, but as a 2x MVP, 5x All-Star, and NBA champion, he is already one of the best players we’ve seen in the modern era.

“He’s averaging a 30-point triple-double right now. He’s beaten KD, he’s beaten the Lakers. We’ve seen great runs from LeBron, and Kobe, but a 30-point triple-double? Throughout the postseason, we’ve never seen that before,” said Richard Jefferson. “You have to put it up there as one of the best performances ever. Coming off the heels of 2 MVPs, I don’t know where he ranks, but what he’s doing right now, it’s one of the most impressive things we’ve seen in the game of basketball.”

Only time will tell what more the Joker will be able to accomplish before it’s all said and done, but there’s good reason to think that this is only the beginning for him.
