This 2023 offseason might well be the most important one in recent history for the Golden State Warriors but they won’t have Bob Myers to help them navigate through it.

Myers is stepping down from his role as president and GM, which is a massive blow for the franchise. His replacement as per Matt Steinmetz, host of 95.7 The Game, will be Mike Dunleavy Jr., the current vice president of basketball operations.

“The next GM of the Warriors gonna be Mike Dunleavy, according to my sources,” Steinmetz said. “… They got to agree to money, but if the money’s right, Dunleavy’s gonna be here. If he’s not here, that means the money wasn’t right.”

(starts at 0:18 mark):

Dunleavy joined the Warriors back in 2018 as a pro scout and rapidly climbed the ranks. In 2019 he became the assistant GM and then in 2022, he was elevated to vice president of basketball operations. It is clear the Warriors think very highly of Dunleavy, who they had actually drafted back in 2002 with the third pick.

He never quite lived up to the hype as a player but hopefully, has a lot more success as GM if he does get the job. You’d think money wouldn’t be an issue, as the Warriors aren’t known for penny-pinching. If they believe Dunleavy is the man who can take over from Myers, then this deal should be done.

Bob Myers Spoke On The Reason Behind His Departure

There had been murmurs for months that Myers was on his way out and he revealed he had gotten to the point where he wasn’t able to give his all on the job. He felt it would be unfair to the organization and the players if he wasn’t giving a 100% and you have to respect that.

Stephen Curry paid a special tribute to Myers after the news broke and it is clear he will be sorely missed by the team. As for his next job, it would appear ESPN is interested in hiring Myers but it remains to be seen in what capacity.
