Miami Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel is in a bit of a pickle when it comes to which team he’s rooting for in the NBA Finals.
“I’m fully invested so Denver Nuggets, why don’t we wait 48 years (for a championship),” McDaniel said Wednesday ahead of the Dolphins’ offseason practice, alluding to how long the Nuggets has not won an NBA title (via USA Today).
McDaniel grew up in Denver as a Nuggets supporter, but has solid friendship with Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra and now is torn between which side to support.
He lavished praise on Spoelstra, saying, “He has to be one of the best professional coaches across all sports,” McDaniel said of Spoelstra, who is leading the Heat to their seventh Finals appearance since 2006. “For me to have access to pick his brain, he throws me a handshake after games, it’s an unbelievable resource.”
It looks like McDaniels has to pick a side when he tunes in on Thursday to watch Game 1 of the NBA Finals between the Heat and the Nuggets.
Mike Malone Is Not Going To Underestimate The Miami Heat
Despite their 4-0 sweep against the Los Angeles Lakers in the Western Conference Finals, head coach Mike Malone cautioned against underestimating the Heat, who may still be tired after the Boston Celtics stretched the ECG to Game 7 before going down 4-3.
“As I told our team, forget the #8 seed stuff. They beat Milwaukee 4-1 and they had the most wins in the NBA this year. They beat Boston 4-3 and they were up 3-0, the team with the second most wins this year. When you get to the NBA Finals, it’s not about seeding anymore. And for those that are thinking this is going to be an easy series, I don’t even know what to say to you, people. This is going to be the biggest challenge of our lives. It’s the NBA Finals.”
This is the Nuggets’ golden chance to win their maiden title, but they will face a stern test in the form of a resilient Miami unit. There are seven games now that determine who will emerge victorious.
