James Harden has reportedly made a final decision on his future with the Philadelphia 76ers, ending his one-and-a-half season with the team following two difficult second-round eliminations.
After the Boston Celtics absolutely demolished the Sixers in the East semis, everybody started speculating about Harden’s future. The Houston Rockets remain a possibility for him, especially now that Harden is set to become a free agent.
“Philadelphia 76ers star James Harden intends to decline his $35.6 million player option to become an unrestricted free agent this summer in order to secure a long-term deal, league sources tell Bleacher Report.”
Chris Haynes reports, however, that Harden might set his sights on a different team, as the Rockets don’t have the conditions he’s looking for in his new team.
“The Houston Rockets have long been a rumored destination, but sources say Harden will only entertain suitors that present a competitive roster and the basketball freedom for the star to be himself, sources say.”
Harden was rumored to be done with Doc Rivers and this might have played a role in the team dismissing their three-year head coach. Now, they’re looking for a new helmsman, and perhaps, depending on who they land, the Sixers can re-sign Harden in the summer.
Last season, the Beard took a little pay cut to help his team bring more players, but the reduction wasn’t that big. The Sixers still managed to create a solid team that finished the 2022-23 regular season as the No. 3 seed in the East. They seem like the best for Harden, especially now that Rivers is out.
James Harden Posted A Message Attacking Experts On Instagram
Time will tell how this situation plays out, but Harden appears to be tired of all the comments. The 2018 NBA MVP recently took to Instagram to take a shot at ‘experts’ amid all the rumors linking him to the Houston Rockets again.
The Texans had ambitious plans for the next season, but seeing Harden’s desire to go to a team with chances to contend, the Rockets aren’t the most suitable option for him. Perhaps another season with the Sixers is what Harden needs, but the Sixers should be careful if they give him a long-term deal.
