Gilbert Arenas believes Jordan Poole’s torrid slump wasn’t because of the hefty contract he inked with the Golden State Warriors earlier this year.
“Nothing to do with he got his money and not doing what he’s supposed to do,” Arenas said on Gils Arena. “Sometimes when they don’t know who you are, it’s easier to get your [ ] off, last year he was on fire, this year, people got a gameplan for him, he has to change his game a little bit more.”

Poole inked a 4-year / $128,000,000 contract with the Warriors, including $123,000,000 guaranteed. His inconsistent outings have led analysts and former players to question whether he was worth the lucrative deal. On his part, though, Arenas felt otherwise.
Poole’s woes were further compounded when he finished pointless in Golden State’s Game 4 loss to the Lakers. The shooter has had a rather measly playoff run so far, averaging 10.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 3.5 assists.
Arenas’ words make sense. Perhaps Poole has become predictable, and his defensive limitations mean that teams will have a plan ready to shut him down early on. Maybe, the prolific guard will figure out a way to break out of his rut, proving he was worth the lucrative contract he signed.
Gilbert Arenas Says The Warriors Must Consider Trading Jordan Poole
In addition to dissecting Poole’s poor run of form, Arenas also suggested that the Warriors must consider shipping the guard in the summer. Speaking on his show, he said, “Watching [Jordan] Poole right now, I might trade him.”
It’s unlikely that the defending champions will let go of one of their crucial players from their title-winning season, but such has been his performances that Poole’s ouster might not really be a far-fetched theory after all.
Earlier, FS1’s Nick Wright opined that the Warriors must be more worried about Poole’s deal than their 3-1 deficit in the ongoing series against the Lakers. “Something far scarier for the Warriors than being down 3-1 in this series…” he tweeted, posting a screenshot of Poole’s contract details
It remains to be seen if Poole can indeed get his mojo back. The Warriors can use some support at the moment.
