Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett shared the locker room as teammates for six seasons with the Boston Celtics.

Since retiring from the NBA, the two legends have made constant appearances on the ‘KG Certified’ podcast and shared a plethora of exciting stories. Speaking of which, Pierce and Garnett discussed in an episode how they had a heated exchange when playing against Matt Bonner and the San Antonio Spurs.

“We playing the Spurs,” Piece said. “I got Ginobili, right? He’s on a tear coming into our building. So I got Ginobili. So the game plan was [we trapping Ginobili]. I didn’t know about that, but anyway. He [Kevin Garnett] guarding Matt Bonner. Bonner got 20 at the half. So we walking down the hallway to the locker room. So we going down the hall, I’m like, ‘Damn got f*****g Matt Bonner?’ So he turned around to me and get in my face like, ‘I got Matt Bonner.’ Somebody gotta guard his f*****g a** then. The reason he got 20 is because I was helping your a** out.”

Kevin Garnett is still salty about letting Matt Bonner score 20 points (not confirmed) on him in a half. It was evident from the fact that Garnett interrupted Pierce several times when he was narrating the story.

KG wanted to make sure the story didn’t portray him in a wrong manner, and he did everything in his power to stop Pierce from doing that.

The game that the two superstars were talking about could be the February 08, 2009 matchup between the Celtics and the Spurs. In the game, Bonner had 23 points to his name, and he ended up scoring 16 of them in the first half of the game.

Following the final buzzer, the Spurs registered a 105-99 victory over the Celtics. As for Ginobili, he also contributed 19 points in the win.

Paul Pierce Thinks NBA Legends Should Connect With Modern-Day Superstars

Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett are undoubtedly two legends of the Boston Celtics. Even after retiring from the NBA, they want to make sure that they stay connected with the Celtics.

So much so that Pierce explained in detail how legends connecting with the new generation superstars help in forging a great bond between the two eras. Pierce believes the Celtics have always followed that ideology.

“I think, being that I was on the Celtics for so long, I feel like it’s my duty to come back and give the game to the YGs. … Because they want us there. They want us to be present. They feel a certain sense of energy because [Boston’s] a traditional franchise where players are up in the rafters. We gotta be the next generation to pass it down to the young guys. And we don’t see that enough.”

Pierce is fulfilling that duty as he has always been available for any young Celtics player if they need a piece of advice from him. The same can be said for Garnett as well.

At the end of the day, this is part of being a franchise legend, and it’s great to see that former NBA superstars take it seriously.
