Point guard Russell Westbrook has had a poor tenure with the Los Angeles Lakers, but it seems as though he found himself again since he has signed with the Los Angeles Clippers.
We have seen Russell Westbrook step up in the playoffs in the absence of Paul George and Kawhi Leonard. It is clear that one of the Clippers’ priorities this offseason should be to retain him, and Paul George recently stated that he’s “vouching” for the point guard to return.
“He’s played himself back into the Russ that he was and that we all knew that he still was,” George said. “Definitely gonna be some decisions. I definitely vouched for him to be here. I’m definitely vouching for him to come back. I just think he brings so much to his team and I mean it’s amazing to watch him. He’s older than me and he’s putting his body on the line. He’s giving literally everything he’s got to our franchise during this playoff run. So I just think he’s the leader that we need at the point guard position going forward and would love to have him back.”

It will be interesting to see what Russell Westbrook will do in free agency. Though there will probably be a lot of teams that can offer him more money than the Clippers, it is possible that he’ll elect to stay with the team based on his elite fit with the roster and the team’s stars.
In the playoffs, Russell Westbrook has averaged 26.0 PPG, 7.5 RPG, and 7.3 APG for the Los Angeles Clippers. They are currently down 3-1 to the Phoenix Suns, and we’ll see if Russell Westbrook can will them to more wins.
Russell Westbrook Gives The Clippers The Confidence That They Can Win Without Their Stars
There is no doubt that many are writing the Clippers off, but it seems as though Russell Westbrook is as confident as ever. In fact, Ty Lue previously claimed that Russell Westbrook is the one that instills confidence in the team to help them believe that they can win without their stars.
“It’s been phenomenal,” Lue said when asked about Westbrook’s energy. “Without Kawhi, without PG, he gives us the belief that we can win and he’s doing a good job with our young guys, instilling that confidence in those guys. Doing it by example but also talking to the guys. When he’s guarding KD (Kevin Durant), the blocked shots from behind, the rebounds, guarding (Devin) Booker, and just how hard he plays every single night. That’s the energy we need and he’s giving these young guys the belief that we can win.”
There is no doubt that Russell Westbrook believes that he can win even when facing overwhelming odds. Hopefully, we see him get one more win in the playoffs, and we’ll see what happens in the future.
