The first-round series between the Memphis Grizzlies and the Los Angeles Lakers have been one of the most interesting matchups so far. The reasons stretch beyond the action on the court.

Dillon Brooks has gone out of his way to act like a villain to attack LeBron James by disrespecting him in interviews. Charles Barkley just wants Brooks to play basketball instead of doing the extra trash talk.

“Dillon Brooks, I got nothing but respect for you. But just go ball and shut the hell up.”

Brooks came out and said the media is intentionally portraying him as a villain to tell a story. That is objectively hilarious on Brooks’ part, as he has gone out of his way multiple times this season to antagonize veterans and champions in the NBA while intentionally giving negative quotes to media members whenever asked.

We all know Brooks was a LeBron fan, and his actions right now are either to get a competitive edge or continue building his name in the league as a ‘pest’, in the same vein as Patrick Beverley.

Is Dillon Brooks Being Treated Unfairly By The Media?

After Brooks spoke about the media portraying him as a villain, the support for him was bleak. Usually, fans tend to agree with players when they feel like the media is setting certain narratives into play. In the situation with Brooks, that is simply not the case. He was a role player on the Grizzlies and has become a prominent member of the team by virtue of his antagonizing actions to the likes of Draymond Green and now LeBron James.

Considering he is in a contract year, Brooks is trying to prove his value to the Grizz. With his playoff numbers looking below average at 11.3 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.7 assists on 32.5% shooting, Brooks is trying to provide value to his teammates by being the ultimate disruptor. It works sometimes, but it doesn’t seem to have worked on LeBron James in this series.
