Mikal Bridges has been a revelation since getting to the Brooklyn Nets, he has been playing at an All-Star level. Mikal was part of the trade that sent Kevin Durant to the Phoenix Suns, but that’s not the first time he’s experienced that feeling.

Mikal Bridges was picked 10th overall in the 2018 NBA draft by his hometown team, the Philadelphia 76ers. But he was almost immediately traded to the Phoenix Suns on the night itself. He recently opened up about it, revealing his anger at the situation.

“I’ve never experienced something like, something you’ve dreamed your whole life and just human nature comes over and takes away like I was pissed off,” Mikal Bridges said on the Point Forward podcast.

“Like, my whole life I wanna get drafted. That was like my dream, go Top 10. I went Top 10 and I was pissed off. I couldn’t control my emotions, I was so mad. Even after everybody went out, I’m in my hotel room like, ‘F**k this.’ I was hot, I was sitting there like, whatever.”

Since becoming the first option on the Brooklyn Nets, Mikal Bridges has averaged 26.1 points and 4.5 rebounds per game. At 26, he is just entering his prime, and it seems like All-Star selections are in his future. The Philadelphia 76ers made a big mistake letting him walk away for Zhaire Smith and a future pick.

Mikal Bridges Is Making History In The NBA

In an era of load management, Mikal Bridges has been available for every single game in his career so far. Bridges played 83 games this season thanks to the trade, joining an elite list of players of all-time and making history. For a Sixers team that has struggled to keep their stars healthy in the last half a decade, he would have been the ideal addition that would have taken them closer to winning it all.

Another former Sixers star, Ben Simmons, has been outshone by Bridges in every way since Mikal arrived in Brooklyn. In just a month, he outscored Simmons’ entire tenure with the Nets. While the Phoenix Suns may not regret trading him considering that they could acquire Kevin Durant, the Sixers will surely feel as bad about trading him away as Mikal Bridges felt on draft night.
