It has taken a couple more years than everyone expected, but Anthony Davis is now playing like the dominant force that he was supposed to be after the title run in 2020.

After AD’s terrific showing against the Houston Rockets on Sunday, Lakers legend James Worthy explained how Davis has returned to his dominant self.

“Ever since he started to explore more in the paint, that opens up everything else for him,” Worthy said. “You haven’t seen AD shooting as many threes as he normally would take because he’s finally realizing through analytics or whatever that anywhere around the paint is where he’s getting it done.”

Worthy also added that perhaps being forgotten about as one of the stars in the league also fueled Davis.

“His numbers went down a little bit, the status went down, not too many people were talking about him as anything. Not DPOY, no candidate for nothing, and now I think he’s realizing that I got to get myself back and show people who I am and I think that’s what he’s doing right now.”

Davis is attempting 1.4 three-pointers per game this season, which is the lowest in his tenure with the Los Angeles Lakers. He has realized that stepping out and shooting from beyond the arc isn’t what he should be doing.

When you are as effective as he is near the basket, that is where his focus should be. All the disrespect aimed at him would have also given AD motivation to get back to his best. In this three-game winning streak that the Lakers are on, he is averaging 38.7 PPG, 11.7 RPG, 1.7 APG, 1.0 SPG, and 2.0 BPG, which is simply ridiculous.

LeBron James Spoke On Anthony Davis’ Dominance

LeBron James said after their latest win that Davis is making magic on the court at the moment. He has been sensational, but LeBron had also hilariously stated recently that Davis needs a kick up his backside at times to get him going, which is true.

For all the good work that AD has done this season, there are still times when he somewhat goes missing. Right before this three-game stretch, he had just 15 points and attempted only eight shots against the Chicago Bulls.

The Lakers just need him to be aggressive in every game, as there really is no way to stop him. He has now played a big part in helping the Lakers get to 40-38 on the season, and they have a very good chance of securing a place in the top six in the Western Conference.
