Los Angeles Lakers Fan Shows What Needs To Happen For Team To Clinch The 6th Seed

The Los Angeles Lakers could still get an automatic playoff spot if things go perfectly for them, as a fan pointed out.

Before the trade deadline, it looked like the Los Angeles Lakers would miss the play-in tournament for the second consecutive season. After some astute moves and an Anthony Davis resurgence, though, the Lakers find themselves within reaching distance of the 6th seed and an automatic playoff spot.

A fan of the Los Angeles Lakers did some calculations with just 5 games left in the season. And they shared the road to the 6th seed for the Lakers if results end up going their way:

Road to 6th seed:

Lakers need to win ALL 5 GAMES (44-38)

GSW needs to lose 1 over 4 games (44-38)

Clippers need to lose 2 games over 4 games (43-39) including vs. LAL

GSW’s last 4 games: DEN, OKC, KINGS, POR

LAC’s last 4 games: PELS, LAL, POR, SUNS

The fantastic thing about this is that the New Orleans Pelicans beat the Los Angeles Clippers on Saturday night. Meaning that if the Lakers can beat the Rockets and the Jazz going into their game against the Clippers, they could theoretically leapfrog them with a victory.

The main threat also exists with the New Orleans Pelicans, who have the same losses as the Lakers and Clippers. The Pelicans have figured things out and look like they’ll end the season strongly, but they have to face teams like the Kings, Grizzlies, and Knicks to end their season.

Can The Los Angeles Lakers Go 5-0 To End Their Season?

The Lakers have gotten hot at the right time, they are 5-1 in their last 6 games. The new-look team has been playing some inspired basketball, and Anthony Davis has stepped up. The return of LeBron James has provided another boost, and their target of making the 6th seed seems within reach for the Lakers.

Their next 2 games are against the Utah Jazz and Houston Rockets, both teams likelier to want to lose than to win in their remaining games. The Clippers game is the all-important one, that is the matchup the Lakers simply have to win. Their final 2 games are against the Suns and the Jazz, so while it’s tough to say that they will win all of these, the possibility certainly exists.

If the Lakers do make it into the postseason, they will be the first team in league history to achieve that following a 2-10 start to the season. But the faith in this roster is high, many expect them to make noise in the postseason if they get there. Their destiny now lies in their own hands, with just a little bit of luck necessary to help them along the way.
