Superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo is one of the best players in the world, and there’s no doubt that he has been dominant this season. As of right now, he is playing at an MVP level, while the Milwaukee Bucks are the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference.

There is no doubt that Giannis Antetokounmpo’s production combined with his team’s success should have gotten the superstar more hype for the MVP award. However, it seems as though a lot of the attention has been directed elsewhere. Recently, Antetokounmpo sounded off on the changing MVP criteria when speaking to Sam Amick of The Athletic, rhetorically asking “what is the MVP?”

“Like, I believe — and I know — that people are dominating. So what is the MVP? Is it the guy who scores the most points? Is it the guy who’s the most efficient? Is it the guy who is the most dominant? Is it the guy who is the most valuable? Sometimes, the best player isn’t the most valuable player on the team. Like, I feel like Brook Lopez is such a valuable player for our team. Like (the MVP criteria) just f——- — sorry for my language — it just changes. As I said again, I can’t control that. I can control only how I prepare for the game and try to be ready for the game.”

Every season, it seems as though the MVP voters change what it means to be the MVP, and Giannis Antetokounmpo’s questioning of the criteria is fair. However, it is also fair to suggest that every season is different, which is why the criteria seem to shift every year.

Giannis Antetokounmpo is averaging 31.5 PPG, 11.9 RPG, and 5.5 APG for the Milwaukee Bucks this season, and there’s no doubt that he’s had a stellar year. Hopefully, he gets more consideration when it comes to the MVP award down the line.

Giannis Antetokounmpo Cares More About Championships Than Winning MVP Awards

Though winning the MVP award is a huge honor for any player, Giannis Antetokounmpo is focusing on winning more titles. Recently, he opened up on the desperation he feels to win more championships.

“Why I’m here is because I’m desperate,” he said. “I’m not as talented as Steph. I’m not as talented as KD. I’m f*****g desperate. I’m obsessed. I’m scared to lose what God has given me and the life that I’ve provided for my kids and my brothers and for my mom, you know? I’m scared. So I f*****g work as hard as I can because I don’t want to lose this s**t.”

There is no doubt that winning at the highest level takes priority for Giannis Antetokounmpo, and everything else is secondary. This is the mentality one needs to win championships, and perhaps this is Antetokounmpo’s year to win it all once again.
