Controversial Radio Host Says Bronny James Will Play In The NBA Only Because Of His Father, LeBron: “This Is Called Nepotism”

A radio host tore into Bronny James, claiming the 18-year-old has no talent and will make it to the NBA because he's LeBron James' son.

Bronny James has been accused of taking the easy route to basketball success by virtue of being the son of LeBron James and having a defined path to the league to walk down on.

Despite Bronny’s objective on-court improvements that unbiased scouts have seen, maligned radio host Craig Carton went in on Bronny and said everything he’s achieved is because of nepotism.

“There’s a lot of people saying (Bronny) is good only because he’s LeBron James’ son… He ain’t a McDonalds All-American, he ain’t on Team USA, and he’s not playing for USC. This is called nepotism.”

It’s foolish to say nepotism hasn’t played a part in making Bronny who he is. He’s the son of LeBron James, he obviously had some of the best tools at his disposal to make his dreams come true. But that was true for his entire high school career, yet ESPN didn’t think he was good enough to be ranked higher than a four-star until he showed a leap in development as a senior to be given a five-star prospect ranking.

Making it to the NBA is probably easier for Bronny than millions of other kids, but we see the sons of NBA players make the league all the time. We also see the sons of NBA legends fail to make the league all the time, so name value rarely keeps a player in the league.

Bronny James Climbing Up The Draft Board

In ESPN’s first mock draft for the 2024 class, they had Bronny going to the Atlanta Hawks with the 17th pick. The Lakers had the 17th pick this season, so it wouldn’t be far off to assume the Lakers could find themselves with a first-round pick to keep Bronny in Los Angeles.

He will be criticized for the help his father has given him in getting him to this stage. But is there any parent that wouldn’t want to give their child everything they can to ensure they have opportunities in life? LeBron is doing his duty as a father, whatever Bronny makes of these opportunities is on him.
