LeBron James still hopes to play with Kyrie Irving but only if it makes sense for that to happen on the Lakers, not the Mavericks.

The tension around LeBron James and Kyrie Irving teaming up has been teeming in the NBA for the last two seasons. Kyrie almost left in the summer of 2022 before asking for a trade at the trade deadline and being dealt to the Dallas Mavericks instead of the Los Angeles Lakers.

The path to Kyrie becoming a Laker isn’t clear, so Irving reportedly tried recruiting LeBron to join him in Dallas. To make some sense out of this confusing situation, Brandon Robinson has revealed that sources close to LeBron dismissed any move to Dallas for LeBron.

“While he would like to play alongside Kyrie Irving, it would have to make sense for that to happen. Like I said, Kyrie is taking meetings with a lot of different teams and, let the best team win… I’m told the conversation about LeBron going to Dallas, when I asked someone I know about if that was realistic, they looked at me and said, ‘Hell no.'”

Robinson said Kyrie is taking meetings with different teams right now, which is a fact many people have doubted. Irving’s market reportedly dried up when the Lakers decided to retain their core instead of making a swing for him. Unless the Houston Rockets are lining up, it looks like Dallas may be the only one willing to give Kyrie the money he wants.

Will We See LeBron James And Kyrie Irving Reuinted?

The likelihood of LeBron going to the Mavericks was slim from the start, even with all the admiration he has for Luka Doncic. James’ son is going to college in California and he has way too many business-related reasons to remain in LA, so a move to Dallas was never going to happen.

Kyrie likely won’t be a Laker in the summer, but rumors of possible trades could remain rife throughout the season, especially if either the Lakers or Mavericks struggle at the start. Anything can happen in the NBA, so even with all the signs pointing toward Kyrie remaining a Maverick, we can’t count out a reunion with LeBron on the Lakers.
