Nikola Jokic On What 100 Triple-Doubles Mean To Him: “When You’re Stat-Padding It’s Easy, You Know.”

Nikola Jokic continues to put on a show in this 2022-23 NBA season, as the Serbian registered his second triple-double in a row in a win over the Houston Rockets.

That latest one also meant he became just the 6th player in NBA history to record 100 triple-doubles, a remarkable achievement. Jokic was asked about it after the game and he had a hilarious response.

“I mean, when you’re stat-padding it’s easy, you know.”

"What does 100 triple-doubles mean to you?"

For those unaware, Kendrick Perkins had claimed that Jokic is stat-padding during games, and this was just Jokic sarcastically firing back at him. It was a ridiculous claim from Perkins and quite a few fans went at him as well. Jokic isn’t the kind to usually fire back at the media, but even he felt the need to call out Perkins for his bogus claim.

Getting back to the triple-doubles, Russell Westbrook (198) and LeBron James (106) are the only other active players to have hit triple figures in the category. While it is unlikely that he ever catches up to Russ, Jokic might surpass LeBron this season itself.

Nikola Jokic Is Set To Win MVP For The 3rd Season In A Row

Whether people like it or not, it is just getting likelier by the day that Jokic will win the MVP award for the 3rd season in a row. Nick Young called out those who want Jokic to win the award again and Joel Embiid’s coach took a shot at the Serbian as well, but that’s not going to change the fact that he is the clear favorite.

A straw poll conducted by ESPN last month had Jokic well clear of the chasing pack, as he had 77 first-place votes. Giannis Antetokounmpo was a distant second with just 11 and no one else even got 10. Unless something dramatic happens from here on out, Jokic is going to become just the 4th man to win 3 MVPs in a row after Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain, and Larry Bird.
